If you want to build an incredible life, hang around incredible people.

That doesn't necessarily mean rich and successful people.

Kind people.
Interesting people.
People who lift you up.
People who normalize some form of excellence.

I've had such a wonderful time building an eclectic collection of friends.

Some are my health-nut friends, or intellectual friends, or athlete friends, or business friends.

Everyone has something interesting that they bring to the table.

A huge mistake I see people making is that they surround themselves with people who bring them down.

Complainers, whiners, life-aint-fairers.

Here's a challenge for my entrepreneur followers out there.

Find a fantastic, new, informative, high-energy business group to network with this month.

See what that does to your ambition.

Your ideas.
Your standards.
Your sense of what’s possible.

Because entrepreneurship gets a lot easier when the people around you make better decisions feel normal.

And once your standards rise, the next question is obvious:

What should you actually get good at?

I spent a decade answering that while building my one-person business to $15M in profit.

Eventually, I narrowed the biggest lessons down to 7 skills.

I broke all 7 down in a free 30-page guide on building a highly profitable solo business without letting it take over your life.

Hundreds of articles, hours of voice notes, and interviews with successful builders compressed into something you can read in 30 minutes.

Agreed! My life has improved dramatically since I started getting intentional about what I normalise.

The people around you really do shape what feels normal. When you surround yourself with curious, driven and positive people, your own standards tend to rise without you even noticing.

Your circle can quietly decide what feels normal to you. Who you spend the most time with really does shape your standards.

'Normalize some form of excellence' is the key line. You end up borrowing your standards from whoever is around you, so it pays to pick them on purpose.

The line about people who make better decisions feel normal is the real point here. Most of us don't rise to our goals, we settle to the standard of the room we sit in most days. Changing the room is often faster than changing the habit.

The people around us quietly shape what we see as possible. Raising your standards often starts with raising the quality of your circle. @thejustinwelsh
