Coming back home to Wits always feels special, but yesterday felt particularly surreal. 🤍

Not too long ago, I was the young girl sitting amongst the crowd, listening to people speak, learning, dreaming and trying to find my own place in the world. Yesterday, I found myself back in that same space, but this time as a guest, a speaker and a member of the judging panel.

The Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment was such an important part of my journey, so being invited back to participate in the Waste to Wonder exhibition felt incredibly full-circle. The event brought together creativity, innovation, fashion and sustainability, showing how something we often consider waste can be transformed into something meaningful.

What made the evening even more meaningful was getting to speak to students about environmental sustainability, the role young people can play in creating change, and my own journey through Miss Earth South Africa.

I am deeply grateful to my faculty for inviting me back and trusting me with the opportunity to share my story. Moments like these remind me why I continue to say yes to opportunities that allow me to serve, learn and inspire.

I especially hope that more young girls see themselves in spaces like these and realise that they don’t have to wait for permission to make a difference. Start where you are. Use what you have. And believe that the work you do in your community matters. . @aliciaduminy_ thank you for the dress❤️
