My thought on The Lord of the Rings book one; The Fellowship of the Ring.
πππππ/5
I call myself a big fantasy guy and I have just now read this masterpiece. This is shameful! I absolutely loved it! As much as I loved the movie, which I gave 5β to, I believe the book is better! Nobody needs a breakdown of the book, because we all know the story, so I will stick to my thoughts and what I liked in the book that was left out of the movie.
Three things that were missing from the movie which I adored in the book were: 1) The conspiracy the Hobbits had to move Frodo out of his home in Hobbiton to Buckland. In this scene Merry and Pippin are there with Frodo and we can feel how close they already are before the journey takes place. 2) Tom Bombadil! He is a merry, singing, mysterious, nature "master"! He is one of my favorite side characters in the book. That is all I will say about him, because I do not want to spoil anything. 3) Farmer Maggot! He plays a bigger role in the book. Read it to find out what I mean.
This series is the epitome of the monomyth, which may be my favorite trope. I highly recommend this book to any fantasy lover. If you are one you've probably already read it though.
