This was hard!! I’m not good at choosing favourites, but I’m happy that my selections represent me!!

Which ones do you agree with? Or which have you doubting my taste? šŸ˜‚

What are your red flags?

I have more than I thought (and probably more I’ve not remembered!). Some of these annoy me too!

One of my favourite things about Bookstagram is how we all have different preferences and quirks - so here are mine!

I was challenged by @livtoread_ to spell Vampire with a book stack - I managed vampir from my TBR, but needed to raid my completed shelves to get the e!

V - Valour by John Gwynn
A - Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid
M - Monstrillio by Gerardo Samane Cordova
P - Prophet by Helen Macdonald and Sin Blache
I - Intercepts by T J Payne
R - The Road of Bones by Demi Winters
E - The Echo Wife by Sarah Gailey

So I have plenty of good stuff to get through in this stack alone ā˜ŗļø Have you read any?

Continuing with the Halloween themed challenge I’m nominating @between_2_chapters @hi.bookshelf @the_seaside_reader @books_barks_and_bubbles @sff_book_soup to spell Pumpkin!

How do you unwind other than reading?

When I’m not reading, I like to do jigsaws - I found this cute cat/book puns jigsaw in Waterstones and it came straight home with me. A blending of my favourites!

Jigsaws help me to switch my chaotic brain off and I can spend a few hours just enjoying being present.

I’ve had a day off work today and I’ve just enjoyed some leisure time doing the things I love.

700 of you is crazy!!

Thank you for being here despite my lack of aesthetic and basic photography skills.

I’m really enjoying just having a place to put my book thoughts and being able to geek out about the books I like with people who like them too!

Here’s to the next milestone! ā¤ļø

Botanical horror buys!

I decided to treat myself to these two!

They’ve been on my radar for a little while; and I’ve heard great things. I’m queuing up What Moves the Dead as my next read after Our share of night.

Have you read them?

Next up - all the way from Belgium courtesy of @between_2_chapters and modelled by my reluctant helper, Leela, is Our Share of Night!

I’m admittedly a bit intimidated by this one as it’s about 500 pages, and the font is small, so this may be my only other read for October!

It’s my first time reading this author, l’m about 40 pages in and I’m already intrigued and enjoying the vibes - it’s kind of giving The Shining in some ways!

Have you read this one?

The Suffering by @paperbacksandpugs is a bleak and relentless onslaught of building tension and body horror; delivered in Sodergren’s easy to read style. I loved the setting of the convent being shut off from the rest of society due to the annual Winter storms.

As per usual, I read through his work in one evening; however, I did struggle at points as the tale becomes quite disgusting and honestly some of the body horror was testing to read šŸ˜‚. I don’t know what the equivalent of watching behind a cushion is for reading? Squinting at the words to limit the impact, perhaps? Regardless, I made it through and was rewarded for my efforts.

Grueling and brutal, the Suffering will be one I remember for a while!

Are you a fan of body horror?

ā€˜TIL death do us part by @helenblairwrites caught my attention with the blurb and its dark premise. We follow Ava, a professional wedding planner with a special wedding upgrade: murdering the groom.

The story is sharp and witty from the outset, and at its core there is a surprising amount of heart. I particularly enjoyed the internal narration from Ava; and also appreciated her backstory to add layers to her character. It’s not often that I empathise with a serial killer!

The story brings issues of domestic violence to the forefront, highlighting the reality of many women’s lives. Some of which was hard to read as I know women who have been through similar.

Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by ā€˜TIL death do us part and it delivered more than I was expecting.

It will be available from May 27 so get on your TBR!

Horror Highlight - @paperbacksandpugs

With us entering my favourite month, I wanted to highlight one of my favourite horror authors!

Each book has a different horror theme, and I enjoy discovering new genres of horror through his writing. My favourites so far are Maggie’s Grave, The Haar and Summer of the Monsters.

The writing can be brutal and gory, but also funny, and beautiful; with characters you will root for - either to survive or for their demise!!

The Suffering is on my list to try and read in October, and I am expecting violence and body horror - take the blurbs seriously!

On a side note - I do love my cat bookends! ā¤ļø

What is your favourite horror book?

How do you explore your creative side?

I had an evening with friends last night where we played with oil paintings. It started off following a tutorial, but halfway through I went off on a tangent and attempted a cute countryside campsite.

This was my first time with oil paints, so I’m pleased with how it turned out. I was shocked to learn that it will take about 3 weeks to dry properly!

Anyway, I thought I would share my other attempts at creative hobbies.
