Confidence is a funny thing.

When we’re playing well, everything seems to click. We trust ourselves, play freely, and don’t spend much time questioning what we’re doing.

But then we have a few bad games, things stop going our way, and suddenly that same confidence can feel miles away.

So how do we find our way back?

Michael Phelps gave us a pretty incredible example during the 2008 Olympics. When his goggles filled with water during the 200-meter butterfly final, he couldn’t rely on his vision anymore. But he’d practiced counting his strokes, and that preparation helped him finish the race and win gold.

We love that story because it reminds us that we don’t always need everything to go according to plan to have something we can trust.

And that’s something we focus on at HAUS. Not trying to feel confident every second of every game, but developing a better understanding of ourselves. Learning what helps us feel grounded, focused, and free, and building practices we can return to when things get difficult.

Because confidence should be built on a solid foundation or otherwise it will elude and frustrate you..

But the more we understand what helps us get into that state, the more we have to rely on when the results aren’t there.

And that takes time, practice, and a little patience with ourselves.

So maybe the question isn’t just how we can become more confident, but how well we understand what helps us feel confident in the first place.

If you’re an athlete struggling to find your confidence or looking to develop a more consistent mental approach to your sport, DM us “CONFIDENCE” and we’ll get back to you.

We’re here to help.
