While some girls dream of fancy restaurants, luxury boutiques and picture-perfect spots, I find beauty in places where history still breathes. Where silence speaks louder than words. Where the past is not just something you read about, but something you can almost feel beneath your fingertips.
And that is exactly how I felt at the Royal Air Force Museum in London 🇬🇧
I walked among aircraft that once ruled the skies, flown by men who were not just pilots, but sons, brothers, husbands and fathers. Men who climbed into those cockpits not knowing whether they would ever return home. And women, too. Brave, extraordinary women who took to the skies, defied expectations and proved that courage, determination and the love of freedom have never belonged to one gender. Their stories deserve to be remembered just as much.
I stood in front of objects that once belonged to real people. People with dreams, fears, families and futures. Some of whom gave their lives defending their country, their people and the freedom we so easily take for granted today.
Being able to step inside, touch pieces of the past and walk between those magnificent machines was something I will never forget. Because these were not just aircraft. They were once someone’s last hope, someone’s greatest responsibility, someone’s final journey.
And for some, in the words of Winston Churchill, it was “their finest hour”.
I stood there, decades later, free to admire the very machines in which others had once risked everything for that freedom. I felt admiration. I felt sadness. I felt overwhelming gratitude. And above all, I felt honoured.
Honoured to stand where the stories of extraordinary courage are still alive. Honoured to witness what remains of a generation that sacrificed so much so that future generations could live in freedom.
And there I was.
Just a girl from the modern world, standing among the ghosts of heroes, grateful for a freedom she was born into but others had to fight for.
