Mhudi by Sol Plaatje. Fascinating, so glad I was gifted it by @marymarycontrary_ at book club, really enjoying it! And simultaneously Yesteryear. Also good, loving the contradictions in the main character and the underlying horror element to it all. Taipei Story is definitely on my TBR!

Oh dear, this has made me a little more reticent to pick up Under Story. Would you say the writing is beautiful enough that it makes up for the lack of plot in the second half?

I liked the first half of under story better!! The second half dragged for me a bit unfortunately. I got tired of it near the end and just wanted it to end

Ok curious: if Under Story had interspersed the reflective bits in the first half as well, would it have been a more balanced read or just paced out completely? In my next life I shall read Taipei story 🙏🏽But for now I am reading Mermaid fillet by Mia Arderne🙌
