🎻Thank you Lake Oswego! So honored to have been awarded Best Documentary at this year’s inaugural fest, and especially that our Co-Executive Producer, Heidi Fox, could be there to accept it. 🎻

In 1985, a 29-year-old Japanese woman named Mariko Aoki wrote a letter to the magazine Hon no Zasshi, explaining that whenever she spent time browsing a bookstore, she suddenly felt the urge to use the bathroom. After her letter appeared, the magazine received so many responses from readers who experienced the same thing that it published a 14-page investigation into the mystery. The phenomenon became known as the "Mariko Aoki phenomenon" and gained widespread attention in Japan. Several explanations have been proposed, including the smell of paper and ink, the relaxing atmosphere of bookstores, and the physical posture of browsing shelves. More than 40 years later, there is still no scientifically established explanation for why it happens.
A Ghost at our Cottage… 👻 Well, it is Halloween after all… so I thought it might be the perfect opportunity to share a few of our rather curious experiences with the unexplained. We live in a farmhouse dating back to 1719 and I’ve always felt a presence here, nothing sinister, thankfully. The old curator at the Castle confirmed that ours isn’t the only farm steading on the Raby estate where the television has been known to switch itself on at 3am, at full volume, for absolutely no apparent reason! I’ve had two rather curious experiences while working as a room guide at the castle, both in my favourite room. On the first occasion, I felt a very firm tug on the back of my blazer. I actually gasped, thinking I’d caught it on an ornament or the door handle, but I was nowhere near either. It felt rather mischievous and playful and, strangely enough, I wasn’t frightened at all. On another occasion, in that very same room, I caught sight of what looked like a ghostly reflection in a bookcase. But perhaps my strangest experience happened many years ago, shortly after my mum passed away. While visiting a customer, I saw a gentleman standing beside her table, quite clearly, folding newspapers. I described exactly what I’d seen to the lady, who immediately recognised him as her late husband. She told me that he used to fold his newspapers in precisely that spot. I’d never met him. Now, I don’t pretend to have all the answers, but I’ve certainly experienced a few things over the years that I simply can’t explain. Our little ghostly visitor today was just for a bit of Halloween fun, but Daisy certainly took to her role beautifully, and I think you’ll agree she rather stole the show 👻 Are you a believer? Have you ever experienced something you simply couldn’t explain? Do share them in the comments, I’d be fascinated to read your stories too. THE 10/10 LIST // no gatekeeping 💪 Number two is the one nobody wants to hear (sorry not sorry), and it’s the reason the other nine actually work. I’ve coached hundreds of women through this. The ones who do all ten? Unrecognizable in a year. 🤍 If you’re new here, I’m Megann. I have a master’s in physiology, and I coach women who keep every promise except the ones they make to themselves. 📌 Comment BLUEPRINT and I’ll send you a more comprehensive plan + optimized for hormone health — look like you lift, build muscle women, women over 30 fitness, body recomposition, strength training women, high protein meals, progressive overload, maintenance calories, creatine for women, sleep and hormones, fitness mindset, realistic fat loss
