🧗‍♀️ She climbed her impossible—and changed the game.
GIRL CLIMBER follows @emilyaharrington’s historic sub-24-hour ascent of El Capitan’s “Golden Gate” route—and the years of grit, doubt, and breakthrough it took to get there.

🎶 I had the honor of composing the original score for this film, alongside an incredible team of collaborators who brought every emotional beat to life.

Honored to share that The River — a film I scored — is screening at the 49th Denver Film Festival and is nominated for the True Grit award. It is a powerful documentary about the fight to protect the Colorado River, directed by @maragtask, in the Colorado Spotlight slate. Denver Film is close to my heart — I have served as a juror on their Music on Film grants and Comparsa won the audience award here — so this one means a lot. 🎬🎼

Screening Sat, Oct 24 at 1:00 PM at MCA Holiday Theater, Denver — with a post-screening Q&A with director Mara Tasker, film participant Nolan Stevens, and producers. (Second screening: Wed, Oct 28 at 10:15 AM at Sie FilmCenter.): https://denverfilmfestival.eventive.org/films/6ab3fb58e9e2f4537578f591

Had a wonderful few days in LA, starting with an Emmys reception for @_the_scl celebrating Chasing Time’s News & Documentary Emmy nomination. Got to reconnect with some wonderful familiar faces, checked out some dream recording studio spots, and came home with a little extra film inspiration. Thanks for the memories, LA!

People ask me what a typical day looks like for me. So here was yesterday — about as glamorous as it gets. PJ’s and all.

Special shoutout to @jamespaulmitchellmusic and @antonioguerramusica for the stellar playing, and to @wearemusiversal — the service I’ve been using to book remote sessions like these for a year now.

New music: coming soon. Or maybe I’ll revising for another 5 years.

Family Strings — the piano

Hadn’t played parts this technical in a while 😬 which is why I have so much respect for session players under pressure. The piano side of the Family Strings score — in the film, the piano is Horst, the owner of the violin and the grandson and son of the Nazis who passed it down to him. So the whole score is built around violin and piano circling each other, the same conversation the film is having. The first is my piano part from the cue where the two finally intertwine; the second is the main father-son theme.

Recorded at Kodiak Studio in Ward, CO by @windovertheearth 🎥 by @max.devincenzo
Violin recorded separately with @aliciasvigalsklezmerviolin — more on that in my last post.

I had the honor of working with the brilliant Grammy-winning klezmer violinist @aliciasvigalsklezmerviolin on the upcoming score for the documentary Family Strings. The film centers on a WWII-era violin tied to a family’s Nazi past that finds a new home and a new chapter with a young Colorado musician. Alicia flew out and trekked up to the remote Kodiak Studio in Ward to record with the actual instrument from the film. There’s something quietly powerful about a klezmer violinist carrying forward the very Jewish musical tradition that history tried to erase and giving this violin a voice. As Brennan says in the film, music brings us together.

Still coming down from the world premiere of my piece ‘The Colorado River Suite’ with the Boulder Symphony at Boulder Bandshell — a suite that grew out of my score for @theriverdocumentary. Thanks again for the outstanding orchestration by @thedanielklintworth and @devinpatrickhughes for giving me the opportunity to show off my music! A few of my favorite moments from the night.
