We asked 20 American imports what playing overseas is really like.

23 seasons. 18 clubs. 8 countries. Pay, housing, food, coaching, and what clubs actually throw in.

Some of it will surprise you. Swipe through.

Played overseas (current or past)? Comment IMPORT and we’ll send you the survey to share your experience.

5 minutes, fully anonymous, and it helps the next guy pick the right team and us to identify missing pieces that can help American football thrive worldwide.

We should also discuss the disappointment that some of these teams have when the import player arrives - Its a job interview from both sides and a lot of truths come out unfortunately once the player arrives . I know that I personally care about what imports think of me and the organization I belong to so we are always upfront about what we can offer and how things are. Its cost us some very good imports but at least our reputation stays intact. Good Luck to all you guys 🤝

Excellent post! Most imports get promised way too much and are disappointed afterwards. You missed one major point: healthcare is fully covered ( Germany). but only if you and your team are aware of paperwork and know what you are doing. Football is a developing but small business in Europe.

Many Europeans that aim to go to Europe and play ball aren’t ready for the football reality, mostly because guys aren’t telling the truth of their experiences. The majority of Europeans don’t have agents, and have no idea that they can negotiate contracts, they’re just happy to say that they played outside their country and call themselves a professional… in fact they are semi-pro. : Everyone told me to play in Germany& Austria, so I contacted teams, but when I saw the contracts they were sending over, I quickly realised, there was too much supply of players, so they could offer peanuts. : But when I looked at Finland and Switzerland…. I saw you could make FAR more money, be well taken care of AND get some good coaching too. More people need to be honest and speak about THEIR experiences for the younger generation to be aware, because guys seem to think there is big money in playing Euro-ball : Others think that playing euro-ball makes them more valuable. The reality is that, it’s a place that needs smart navigation to get the best out it. It can be extremely fulfilling when in the right situation.

@bolstad75 We've been covering football here for decades. You're a random non-football non-Japan account. Who do you think knows more about Xleague salaries? LOL
