Tonight, let’s move neighborhood schools forward.
The Board of Education will vote tonight on the direction of SFUSD’s new elementary-school assignment system. I’m urging the Board to move forward with neighborhood schools, meaningful access, and a clear path to implementation.
Every family should have a guaranteed neighborhood-school assignment, while retaining the opportunity to apply elsewhere—including for language immersion and specialized programs. Certainty close to home and access beyond it.
We’ve been advocating for this through our op-ed, our community education town hall with the Westside Family Democratic Club, and the resolution I introduced at the Board of Supervisors.
Our resolution goes further, calling for greater certainty across elementary, middle, AND high school. Moving forward with elementary-school reforms tonight is a good first step—not the finish line.
