Federal agents executed a search warrant at the home of Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota on Monday. The Justice Department has historically avoided such investigative moves related to political candidates so close to elections. The search of Omar’s Washington-area home comes after Department of Homeland Security officials said in recent months that they were investigating Omar, a Democrat, over her family’s immigration paperwork. In a statement, Omar called the raid “an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement." The search warrant was the subject of significant back and forth between prosecutors and the federal judge who eventually approved it, according to people familiar with the matter.
