It’s taken me a couple of days to truly process what happened this weekend.

We put ourselves in the best position heading into the final power stage. All we needed was 4th or better to clinch the championship. After a season of fighting for every second and point, it came down to one last stage.

Half way through the stage we hit exposed bedrock on the racing line, puncturing both left side tires. We did everything we could to limp to the finish but in the end it wasn’t enough.

What makes this harder to swallow is knowing everything it took to get here.

This season was do or die for me. I put everything I had financially into running my own team, competing against manufacturer teams with far more resources and support. There were no guarantees, but I believed we could fight at the front.

And we proved that.

Bad luck followed us all season. At the Snow Drift we were three corners from our first overall win when a mechanical failure took it away. Punctures at two other rallies cost us chances at wins and valuable points. Somehow, we still led the championship for most of the year.

Without the two dropped rounds in ARA’s points system, we would have won on total points. Those were the rules we all raced under, but it’s still a tough pill to swallow.

I don’t think I’ve ever given so much of myself to something, only to come so painfully close.

But I don’t want this weekend to overshadow what we accomplished. I became the first woman to lead the overall American Rally Championship standings and the first woman to win an overall national rally, in my first season back after two years and my first in a Rally2 car. I’m incredibly proud of that, and no championship result can take it away.

I’m so proud of everyone who put their heart and soul into this program. I know how much they sacrificed, and I wish we could have brought home the title they deserved.

I’ve always known rallying can be cruel, but I don’t think I understood just how cruel until this weekend.

I hope I’ll remember more than how it ended: the risks we took, the history we made, and the people who believed in us.

Katanya, buah hatinya itu mulai batuk sejak 3 bulan lalu saat asap mulai pekat. Namun, dalam 2 pekan belakangan, anak Monica batuk parah sampai muntah setiap malam dan subuh.

Katanya, ia sudah membawa si kecil ke dokter spesialis anak, diberi obat hingga pijat bapil dan nebulizer. Seminggu sekali, Monica juga bawa anaknya itu ke rumah aman asap buat terapi oksigen.

Di rumah, kata Monica, keluarga sudah berupaya menjaga udara seaman mungkin. Mulai dari menghidupkan AC dan pasang 2 air purifier di kamar anaknya. Namun, katanya, tiap subuh, lampu indikator air purifier tetap merah.
