Nearly six years after the Bond Fire devastated Rancho Soñado, a new chapter is beginning.

OCDE recently broke ground on a $21 million Inside the Outdoors Education Center, marking a long-awaited return to the program’s longtime home in the Santa Ana Mountains.

The new center will feature classrooms, outdoor learning spaces, teaching pavilions and an amphitheater, giving future generations of students opportunities to explore science and the natural environment firsthand.

Before the 2020 fire, more than 100,000 students had experienced outdoor learning at Rancho Soñado. Soon, a new generation will have that opportunity.

I’m literally in tears watching this 🥹. Some of the best moments of my 25 + years working with ITO were spent enjoying the beauty of this wonderful site. The thought of students, experiencing the magic of this place, couldn’t make me happier. It’s like a dream come true to know this is happening. I am grateful to all the people behind the scenes who are working to bring Rancho to life again. It’s a true “Phoenix” rising up from the ashes story. I hope I get the opportunity to visit there again to see it in its glory!!!

I’m so happy to hear and see this!!! I didn’t have the chance to teach there but I remember loving the quiet early mornings there to pick up animal ammbassadors for our other field trips. Or hearing the wind pass through the trees during trainings at Rancho Sonado. Wishing the ITO team good luck on this awesome new chapter!!
