The Pitfalls of clown activism.
How do we make sure it's ACTUALLY effective?

Also this amazing clown collar is from @thehushfallarchives

The inflatable animals protests were brilliant and more effective than any small action I’ve seen for a while. People know about it and talk about it and it doesn’t detract from anything. It was a way of repelling state violence by making it ridiculous. Have you discussed this with the participants?

I kinda recoiled inside when you quoted Stalin. I then reconsidered because he initially posited some good theory for the workers’ movement. But if i may, I think using someone like him as a source does a disfavour to the argument certainly for those who only know the propagndized version of history

I suggest you do some research into CIRCA. There's nuance that is being missed here, and the act of protest clowns do not always fit these objective based narratives. Clowning merely as a tool to achieve a goal, i think misses perhaps the most valuable thing they can offer: their state of being. Much of that cannot be quantified as it deals more with the effect they have on the people, on community. The frog costumes are undoubtedly funny, but this isn't really clowning in the way I'm speaking of it.

I don't think Stalin is the right person to give advice on protesting. Also, all of this sounds a bit purist. Sure, clowing about doesn't achive anything. The only thing that really achieves anything is when the point tips. And for that rupture to occur you something that clowns and the seriously organized protesters don't have: momentum. Revolution didn't happen in Germany like it did in Russia or China. There will never be momentum in the US or Europe until the people really feel it beyond the promisse of the middle class dream.

I am running for Mayor of Ludlow KY in a few weeks. I have been working to build a chorus to tap the power of Estonia’s #singingrevolution @circusmojo open up in Ludlow in 2009 when many confederate flags flew… Now the stars and bars are outnumbered by the Rainbow 🏳️‍🌈 Flag. We need to keep singing and start at the local level! Thank you @ladyizdihar - hope to pick this discussion up and amplify clownfrontation (Larry Pisoni’s term) Pickle Family Circus

i feel like costumes that restrict movement should never be worn in what could potentially become a dangerous situation

In the terms of clowning, you're better off being a Fool at a protest than a Buffoon.

I know we are healing when aestethic/performance is finally seen neither as bad or good but as a tool for ethics!! This is urgent!

And hence, we are back at optical allyship again. Perhaps as bad as ever because of the implicit influencer mindset.
