Fires don’t wait. Neither should we. 🚒
When fire fighters arrive at a structure fire, they can’t go inside to make a rescue until there are at least four on scene. That’s the “2 in, 2 out” rule set out by NFPA standards and WorkSafeBC: two fire fighters enter, and two stay outside, ready to rescue them if something goes wrong.
Across BC, some Locals operate with a minimum of only three, or sometimes two, fire fighters on shift. When a structure fire comes in, those crews have to wait for off-duty members to get to the hall, gear up and join the call before anyone can go inside. Every one of those minutes counts.
On-duty crews do everything they can from outside, but a fire keeps growing while they wait. Safe staffing means four on shift, every shift, so crews can go in safely and faster. That protects our members, protects people trapped inside, and limits damage to homes and businesses.
Fully staffed. Every shift. Every call.
