I booked the Civic Hall in Campbelltown based on a shit website photo of what looked like a good building.

Yesterday I was against the clock to make the 57km journey from Sydney to get there by 4pm to collect the keys. Makes total sense that council offices close at 4pm in the modern world, I reckon.

It was a bit of a blur when I arrived at 3.59pm, but I got the swipe card and then noticed the buildings.

They boast quite the assortment of very good civic buildings, including the main council building, the hall and the old library building, all designed by Davey, Brindley and Vickery (1964–1971).

Then, in 1982, Grenfell, Fraser and Associates offered up the rather nice Brutalist extension to the original building.

The council went hard with the first council building on the promise of Campbelltown becoming a much larger satellite city.

Those plans were abandoned.

I had a wonderful time presenting to a super-engaged audience.

The hall was cool. Great civic buildings rock.

I remember going in there as a kid while my mum paid the rates!

Nice tower block. Campbelltown was envisioned as a city. I’m still appalled that Ryde Civic Centre from that era was bulldozed a few years ago.

My dad had an office in that brutalist extension for many years throughout the 80s and 90s. I remember it well. Carpeted walls, leather couches and a walnut cabinet with a hidden bar fridge full of Crown Lagers and Schweppes Bitter Lemon. What I wouldn’t give to visit my dad in that office just one more time.

Brilliant show last night thanks. I grew up in a cul-de-sac in Scrambletown in the 70s and 80s surrounded by 10 Pound Poms. Many Blue Light Discos in that Hallowed Hall you were in. Nath
