i just want to give a HUGE shoutout and my absolute gratitude to @nwfearfest and the entire @nwfyeg and @rvffyeg organization from the board to the volunteers to the artists to the filmmakers to the attendees and of course @themetrocinema for having us every year!!
back when northwestfest was known as global visions, i began volunteering at this neat little documentary film festival and was amazed to find my way back into the creative world after a long social hiatus (due to my fibro and life kicking my tush). i found friends, passionate afficianados and a volunteer family that eventually also spanned their queer film festival (rainbow visions) and scary fearfest. i got the pleasure of helping supporters and fans find cool merch, met tons of really awesome people and saw many great films (as well as collected cool badges, bought stickers and pins and shirts and tonight the lovely poster that accompanies my reminiscing grateful post).
so thank you, Northwestfest and the entire organization so SO MUCH, for taking me in and helping me relearn how to be in the public and give back as part of an awesome group!! my life has gotten busy enough i haven't been able to contribute many volunteer shifts this past year, and i think it's time for me to make some room for other passionate people who want to be a part of something incredible.. i owe everyone involved a huge thanks from the bottom of my heart for helping me be involved and finding my way back to the world!
SO! if you like horror films and campy classics, follow northwestfest and get on down to the Garneau Theater tomorrow and this weekend and support independent cinema and an amazing venue that gives so much to our city! (they show tons of wicked flicks most days of the year, for the whole family!)
PLUS they're frickin' playing Big Trouble in Little China this weekend, i mean come on total classic (that explains way too much of my childhood humour lol). bring your friends, grab some snacks, enjoy the new vintage retro wallpaper and incredible art and all the awesome custom movie posters and enjoy a slice of community and fun! 💜🔥😻
