Today Mahmoud Khalil asked the Supreme Court to review the case challenging his detention by the Trump administration after the appeals court in January overturned a lower court’s order that released Mr. Khalil on bail and barred the government from detaining or deporting him.
Mr. Khalil’s petition for a writ of certiorari to the Supreme Court argues that the federal courts have always had the authority to hear a claim that one is being unconstitutionally detained by the executive and to order one’s release, particularly when the very point of a detention is to retaliate and punish someone for constitutionally protected speech.
The case will have far-reaching consequences for all detained migrants by giving the Trump administration vast power to detain on unlawful or pretextual bases.

I met Mahmood in 2018 in Lebanon whilst on an aid mission. He was working with 2 jobs and studying. A great young man who inspired my lad too. It’s a shame how he has been vilified with malicious intent.
