The latest issue of The Modern Muse explores women and who we become “after hours”. When the pace slows, expectations soften, and we return to ourselves.
Having Asiyah Intimates featured on the front cover and in the opening editorial felt incredibly special, but the theme also made me stop and think:
What does “after hours” actually mean to me? Honestly, I’m not sure I ever truly have one.
I’m a wife, mum, sister, daughter, founder and lawyer. There is almost always something left to do, someone who needs me, or one more email I could answer. So for me, after hours isn’t really a time. It’s a feeling. It’s that small window when the house is quiet and everyone is asleep.
A long shower, skincare, soft loungewear, a beautiful scent, green tea, strawberries and chocolate, a candle burning and a good book. Other nights, it’s sitting with my sisters and mum watching a rom-com while Mum inevitably falls asleep 15 minutes in.
I’ve stopped expecting these moments to look perfect. I think filling your cup is often much simpler than that. It’s finding small pockets of time where you’re not producing, organising or looking after everyone else. Where, for a moment, you can just be.
Maybe that’s what after hours means to me. It’s the version of myself that returns when the day finally lets go.
What does “after hours” look like for you?
