can you relate?👇

if you or your child have a food allergy or celiac disease, then I bet you can. the teacher let me know that she was providing the class plain pumpkin shaped sugar cookies to decorate at their class Halloween party. I am so grateful that we have a teacher for my child who is so communicative and remembers that my child cannot have gluten.

this is a perfect example of how celiac disease strips you of spontaneity with food and community with food. I am sure my daughter‘s pumpkin shaped cookie will look different than the others along with all of the toppings because I had to make sure those were gluten free as well.

I am not seeking validation, but giving it. I don’t need anyone to tell me how good of a mom I am or how my kiddo is so lucky. I am simply sharing this because other parents who have kiddos with food allergies or celiac disease have to constantly be thinking about what they can do to make their child feel “normal” during class parties. Social events and restaurants are always the most tricky to navigate.

This will be our first holiday season with my daughter’s confirmed diagnosis of celiac disease (she is 4 years old) so please comment any tips or words of wisdom below👇

I am lactose intolerant (it was BAAAAD when I was a kid) and I very specifically remember my mom dropping off my own ice cream at school for a class ice cream party so I could still celebrate with the class…didn’t think anything of it at the time, but I think back on it now and remember all the times my parents went out of their way to make sure I was always included in things despite my food allergy and I feel so grateful! As a kid she’ll remember feeling included and having fun with friends, as an adult she’ll reminisce on how amazing her mama is for always making her feel that way!

As a celiac, you have no idea how special it is to feel included 😍

The lack of spontaneity and the social aspect was the hardest part of my diagnosis. @sweetlorens makes great cookie dough options for convenience when needed ❤️

Absolutely get it. It sucks. But your kid will be SO HAPPY. It makes it all worth it. Also - put some GF treats in a school freezer for unexpected events. 👍🏻
