“When mama’s not okay, no one else can be.” ❤️‍🩹

Grief affects more than the person experiencing it. It touches the entire family, and how we move through our own pain can shape how the people we love navigate theirs, too.

In this episode of The Terri Cole Show, I sit down with grief and relationship therapist Dr. Laura Berman (@drlauraberman) to talk about loss, healing, and what it means to build a life you never imagined having to live.

After losing her 16-year-old son, Sammy, Laura found a way to move through unimaginable grief and begin reimagining her life. In her new book, Crying Out Loud: A Path Through Grief into a Life Reimagined, she shares what helped her along the way.

This conversation is a reminder that tending to your grief isn’t about speeding through it and getting to an arbitrary “destination.” Tending to it with care can create space for your whole family to heal.

My mom was perpetually distracted and focused on my alcoholic dad. Thats where all her energy went. And she had no time for our emotions or problems.

Such an important conversation. ❤️ Grief doesn't exist in isolation. It touches everyone around us, often in very different ways. I particularly appreciate the reminder that healing isn't about reaching some imaginary finish line, but learning to live with love and loss together.
