Photos by @joelsartore | Servals like this one I photographed @fortworthzoo are sometimes referred to as giraffe cats because of their unusually long necks and legs. They have the longest legs relative to their body size among any wild cat—an attribute that allows them to jump straight up about 10 feet (3 meters) into the air! Those ears aren't just for show. Servals have ultrasonic hearing and can pick up rodents squeaking underground in their burrows before pouncing. Radar dishes with legs!

An extraordinary portrait of a remarkable species. Joel Sartore’s work reminds us that wildlife photography is not only about capturing beauty, but also about inspiring respect, awareness and a deeper commitment to conservation. Every species deserves a future in the wild.
