THE CENTRAL BAR

Tickets 8.50 adv via
https://www.marrapalooza.co.uk/p4foxes

FFO: The Beths, Belle and Sebastian, The Sundays, The Cardigans

Were so excited to bring this spectacular NZ indiepop band to Newcastle for their first gig since opening for The Beths!

On DATELINE:

____________

Dateline is the musical project of Katie Everingham (she/her), a musician and songwriter based in Te Whanganui a Tara (Wellington).

Since 2019 her band has been a revolving cast of Aotearoa’s brightest talent, with previous incarnations including members of The Beths, Hans Pucket, and Dick Move. Returning in 2024, Everingham is joined by Hikurangi Schaverien-Kaa (Ebony Lamb, French For Rabbits, Glass Vaults), Phoebe Johnson (Ebony Lamb, Revulva), and Reuben McDonald.

Everingham’s lyrical prowess and humorous story telling aptly captures the complex emotions and vulnerabilities that come with motherhood and moving into your early thirties. Resonating with deep emotion, Dateline’s back catalogue packs a one-two punch of crunched guitars and power pop sensibilities.

“Exceptionally catchy and wryly emotive” – Undertheradar.co.nz

“Dateline is a classically NZ bit of self-deprecation” – RNZ, The Sampler

“Everingham always shows a deft touch when it comes to combining crunchy guitar lines and earnest melodies” – Rolling Stone AUS/NZ taken in The Central Bar by @p4foxes

MARRAPALOOZA ANNUAL SURVEY: www.marrapalooza.co.uk/survey

Over the last four years dozens of people have poured countless hours into trying to make Marrapalooza the most unique event of its kind in the North of England and we're so grateful to you for your support.

As we're preparing for a fifth year of our festival we'd like to ask your feedback on this year's event.

Please let us know your thoughts!

It is quite bizarre and exciting and a little stressful that this tour starts in a month!! Just one small month to get a lot done and organised which is so fine and not overwhelming at all. I am feeling VERY lucky and grateful for the amazing musicians who are playing with us / helping organise shows / helping with gear as well as the promoters who generously replied to my emails and said ... fine... lets do it, and have helped to get this off the ground. It is actually quite hard to organise something like this all the way from New Zealand.. especially when you have a million other things to do all the time. If you live in any of these places please get your tickets and come along to support us, the other bands, the venues, the promoters and all the legends who help making fun things like ROCK SHOWS happen because how dull would life be without them.. See you VERY soon UK! @whoaregoo @zoliefmusic @weareactrs @p4foxes @folklore1 @lovethyneighbr @eipcollective @deadpunkpromo @deadslowhoot @zarasm1le and the biggest I LOVE YOU to Liam / @taauataaua who made this incredible poster and tolerated my very slow posting and poor comms while I told myself I had heaps of time to get to this admin... "Breathtaking" - KLOF magazine
___________

The nine members of Shovel Dance Collective are united by a passion for the beauty, force and political charge of traditional music. Together their practice has emerged as a patchwork of fragments, traditional material sewn together and embroidered with their own ever-deepening group improvisations, explorations of field recordings, and concrète style tape manipulation.

Their arrangements emphasise the inviting, hopeful and human qualities of folk, and they channel the joy and sadness held in these collaboratively-shaped words and melodies. Balancing dense orchestration with intense fragility, the patchwork is threaded with a deep sense of the way in which traditional music carries the voices of all those who have gone before, the oppressed and those who, through their labour, create the wealth of the world.

Soon after Marrapalooza finishes, we always have a short period of very high social media engagement with viewer numbers that are about 3x what they are usually.

We want to use this to highlight some of the amazing music festivals being ran in the North East by incredibly dedicated people.

You can visit Sunderland this Summer and catch @summerstreetsfestival (Martin Mcaloon!)

In October, the always awesome @twisterellafestival is in Boro.

On the seaside at Redcar and Cleveland catch @saltburnfolkfestival

Or of course, come back to Ouseburn Valley for @ouseburnfest including a stage curated by @tyneandqueercic

Bring in the Summer Solstice at @grimprintuk s Hyper Inverter festival in the woods of Cumbria

And if you're in Darlington, make sure you don't miss @tracksdarlington

There is really amazing work going on to bring amazing musicians to all parts of the North East, we really have an embarrassment of riches right now!
