The week ahead holds two opportunities to experience new exhibitions by PS1 Gallery Awardees in the company of the artists themselves! First, join us on Friday from 6-8pm at PS1 Close House for the opening of “Firewood” by Aidar Ishemgulov. Ranging in subject from ancient Greek myth and biblical stories to the absurdism of contemporary politics and power, the wooden sculptures in this exhibit demand attention both within and outside the walls of the gallery. And on Wednesday, join us from 4-6pm for an open house at PS1’s Northside Gallery, where Jenn Jacobson’s new show, “Corn, Corn, Corn, Gender Fluidity, Corn,” weaves together fiber arts and photography to document a road trip taken to seek gender-affirming care across state lines. The show’s quilted pathways traverse the gallery’s windows and ceilings and invite viewers to literally sit with the art. More at publicspaceone.com/exhibitions by @p_s_won

Join the artists, Satomi Kawai, Douglas Baker, Dani Sigler, Vero Rose Smith, and Anita Jung, for an opening reception and witness new work, interviews, and the responsive performance “RADIANT café.” Created in collaboration over the past year by Satomi Kawai and the Women: Hood Collective (2025-26 Big Field Fund Project Grantee), “Women: Hood” IV amplifies the voices of women based in eastern Iowa. Highlighting various cultural backgrounds, social statuses, age groups, and educational levels, the project stimulates reflection and dialogue, becoming a source for new collective work. “Women: Hood” IV 237 Collective Gallery 329 10th Ave SE, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401 (Located in the Cherry Building) Time: Opening reception 10/17, 6-8p Following the reception, this exhibition will be on view October 17th through October 25th, 2026 during gallery open hours. These include: 10/23, 11am-3pm, 10/24, 1:30-4pm and 10/25, 1:30-4pm. All events are free, accessible, and open to the public. Free Art Events at Zarpa Studio! Create a fall-themed still life with Carlos Maldonado (2025-26 Big Field Fund Project Grantee) during open studio hours in October. Location: Zarpa Studio 317 N Calhoun Street West Liberty, IA 52776 Time: Saturday, October 17th 2pm-5pm & Friday, October 23rd 4:00pm-7:30pm Come paint or draw in community. Charcoal, paper, acrylic paint, and an 8” x 10” canvas will be provided, but feel free to bring your own supplies too. Everyone is welcome! Registration is not required. RSVP is appreciated.
