Mild temps mean more folks are out on the trails, which means more eyes on the trails. PACA and our trail volunteers keep their eyes on Trail Forks trail reports to find and ix trail issues. Here's how you can help let us know about downed trees, erosion issues and any other potential issues you come across. Thanks for caring about our trails! by @pacabikepenticton

Heads up for trail users: prescribed burn planned near Reservoir Road / northwest Campbell Mountain

BC Wildfire Service, the Okanagan Shuswap Natural Resource District and Penticton Indian Band are planning a prescribed burn near Reservoir Road, on the northwest side of Campbell Mountain.

The burn may cover up to 30 hectares and could begin as early as October 13, depending on weather and site conditions.

The work is part of an ongoing wildfire risk reduction project intended to reduce forest fuels, restore forest health and improve long-term ecosystem resilience.

Smoke may be visible from Penticton, Naramata, Summerland and surrounding areas, including along Highway 97.

If you’re riding or recreating in the Reservoir Road / Campbell Mountain area this fall, please be aware of the planned work and watch for any posted closures or operational notices.

More information: visit Prescribedfire.ca or follow BC Wildfire Service / Kamloops Fire Centre updates for timing and operational details. by @pacabikepenticton

Planning for the future of the Three Blind Mice Network

City funding helped support the Master Plan and Environmental Management Plan. Together, they provide a ten-year roadmap for maintaining and responsibly improving approximately 100 kilometres of trail across 1,800 hectares.

The plan identifies:
14 safety hazards, 21 prescribed repairs and 11 trail improvements
35 potential reroutes to address erosion, difficult grades and long-term sustainability
Improved trailhead signs, warning signs, maps and wayfinding
A proposed 5.4-kilometre southern climbing route
More beginner- and progression-friendly trail options
Potential improvements to parking, staging and trail access
Measures to reduce erosion, trail widening and impacts on sensitive areas

Maintaining a network of this size requires more than occasional trail days. It involves year-round planning, environmental review, hazard response, seasonal trail crews, tools, materials and volunteer coordination.

Sanctioning gives the network legal status and stronger protection within land-management processes like development and logging, while improving access to funding and establishing clear standards for safety, environmental protection and long-term maintenance.

It also brings greater responsibility: work must follow approved plans, environmental requirements and land-manager processes while addressing hazards and managing liability. by @pacabikepenticton

Where does PACA’s City funding go?

PACA receives $51,000 in 2026 through a three-year agreement with the City of Penticton.
100% of that funding supports the City-owned portion of the Three Blind Mice trail network.
It does not fund Lake-to-Lake construction or PACA’s urban cycling advocacy.
It supports planning, environmental review, trail labour, tools, materials, maintenance, hazard response, sustainable repairs and volunteer coordination.

During the second quarter of 2026, PACA:
Completed 10 priorities from the Three Blind Mice Master Plan.
Addressed all identified trail hazards on City and adjacent Recreation Sites and Trails BC lands.
Organized three volunteer trail days (so far) involving approximately 60–90 community volunteers.
Coordinated another 13 volunteers from Arc’teryx.
Delivered more than $47,000 in trail work (to date).

City funding is only one part of PACA’s finances. Our work is also supported by memberships, grants, programs, sponsorships and donations. Many of these funds are restricted to specific projects. by @pacabikepenticton

Tsweet Tsue Armouring + Fall Trail Upgrades

October 25

Join us for a hands-on trail day focused on extending the armouring work completed on Tsweet Tsue this spring, along with some fall maintenance to help Flow Coaster head into winter in good shape.

No experience is needed. Our Trail Coordinator will provide direction throughout the day.

What you'll do:
Haul and place pavers and rock for armouring
Cut and secure framing for box armouring
Shovel, rake, and shape dirt
Operate a plate tamper on freshly shaped sections
Help with general trail work as needed

If you have experience operating a plate tamper, please let us know. We’ll need a few volunteers who are comfortable running the equipment.

Today, PACA recognizes the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.

The trails where we ride, work and gather are within the unceded territory of the syilx Okanagan People. As a cycling and trail-stewardship organization, we have a responsibility to learn the history of these lands, listen to Indigenous voices and build respectful relationships grounded in action.

Today is a time to honour Survivors, remember the children who never returned home, and reflect on the lasting effects of the residential school system on Indigenous families and communities. by @pacabikepenticton

Ahead of Penticton's municipal election, PACA is will be posting some statistics about our cycling infrastructure and trails. This is post 2 of 4.

How much is the route being used?

The Eckhardt Avenue and Martin Street counter recorded:
75,343 crossings in 2022
96,633 crossings in 2023
119,911 crossings in 2024
291,887 crossings over three years
59% growth from 2022 to 2024

The 2024 total works out to approximately 328 crossings per day—or one every 4.4 minutes when averaged across the entire year. In 2025, Penticton had approximately 205 bikable days (days with a daily high above 5°C and less than 1 mm of total precipitation).

During August 2024, use averaged approximately 636 crossings per day. That equals one every 2.3 minutes across a full 24-hour day—or roughly one every 90 seconds if those trips were concentrated within 16 daytime hours.

These are trips, not unique individuals, and they represent one counting location. They do not answer every question about the route, but they show that it is being used and that use has grown. by @pacabikepenticton

Lake-to-Lake by The Numbers

Total project cost: Approximately $9.1 million with more than $6.3 million—roughly 70%—coming from federal, provincial and ICBC programs. This included $1.84 million in grants specifically designated for active transportation.
What the cost included: Not just bike lanes. Approximately six kilometres of protected infrastructure, plus intersection and crossing improvements, sidewalks, lighting, drainage, stormwater upgrades, landscaping and related road construction.
Local contribution: It is inaccurate to say Penticton spent $9.1 million in local property taxes solely on bike lanes.
A local road comparison: Penticton’s Point Intersection group of projects cost $10.5 million. That package included a roundabout, a signalized intersection, repaving, utilities, lighting, road changes and a portion of Lake-to-Lake. Modern road and intersection projects routinely bundle several kinds of infrastructure—the entire price should not be attributed to the most visible feature. by @pacabikepenticton
