Like many others, I am deeply dismayed by the direction meta has taken this app, especially in the last few weeks. At times I think I cannot be a part of this, but I also do not think anything will be served if we self segregate further and further into ideological camps. If we keep ceding space to the fascists, we will only become more polarized. I am staying - for the time being - but I am heeding the call to pack my digital bags so that I am ready to move. I also would hate to think that others who wish to leave this app are stopped because they feel like they'll be cut off from the online community if they do, that they'll miss out on the sharing and learning and inspiration. So many of our fibre friends are working hard to establish community over on Bluesky, and they are doing SUCH an amazing job. I want to do my part too.

I am still deeply committed to hosting and sharing about #spindlebingo2025 here, but if you would rather catch up on what I'm up to or let me know what you're up to on a different platform, I'm there with you.

IMPORTANT: Any space I occupy, I will uphold as a safe space for the LGBTQIA2S+ and BIPOC, here and elsewhere. This is non-negotiable. by @pacificcoasterfibres

TDF 2026 with @mellyknits and the Stashdashers!

I didn't throw myself into TDF this year (in fact I spent the whole first week catching up on plying), instead I simply steadily spun on. It turned out to be a good plan. I didn't need the stress of A Big Project, but rather gentle camaraderie and my constant spindles.

Slide 1: Roost battlings by @thewoodlandpixie brought so much colour joy. I am absolutely going to make an emotional support chicken out of this ... Once I am done displaying the spindles for viewing pleasure 🀩

Slide 2: When the mailman brings you new hand combs (from Forsyth combs), you start a new project with them. This is Romney shared with me by @s.d.miliotis , spun on spindles by my fellow handconbed cross-arm spin addict @battyfibers

Slide 3: I spun up the hot pink portion of @inglenookfibers Tickled in Pink set on Polwarth/Silk on the wheel and plied this up. It's been a long while since I wheel spun combed top, I kind of miss it!

Slide 5: @battyfibers and I had a hankering to try spinning THICC, so I grabbed some @helloyarn and a Pumpkin Batty. It was hilarious going from this 2 ply Aran spin to my 3ply-lace spin on my Jenkins caribou spindle - featuring impeccably prepared @geofruppert merino x roving from @victoriarowdenknits

Slide 6: I can't go too long without a Goddess spin - just doesn't feel right - so I pulled out these Inglenook Pearlescent battlings that I've been hoarding (they have @applecreekmerinos fleece in them!)

Okay have I tagged enough people yet?? No?
The biggest thank you to our magic workers @mellyknits, @cute_lil_emily and @battyfibers for their incredible generosity in bringing everyone together.

Fiber Fusion NW 2026

Slides 1-3: I bought (half) the booth display at @ironwaterranch πŸ˜… this is Orion the Romney's fleece which Kiersten scoured and hand dyed to absolute perfection. I cannot wait to make rainbow batts with these! My husband for the record is very disappointed that I didn't get the whole thing to display just so in our house.

Slide 4: rainbow build a batt kit from @skagitwoolenworks ! I had so much fun with my last kit so naturally I needed to re-up.

Slide 5: a little skein of handspun found its new home in @lrshepherd_ 's booth and its Romney/Shetland/NUGORA friend (slide 10) came home with me!

Slide 6: checking out the brother mini mill and naturally thinking of @agoulz πŸ˜‚

Slide 7: it's not Fiber Fusion without @allenrberry πŸ’–

Slide 8: wee baby Shetland

Slide 9: momma and baby goat having a lil snuggle nap πŸ₯Ή

Last slide: the aftermath πŸ˜… it's aesthetic right, I can just leave it like that?

More and more, each visit to the local festival is about connections and stories and meeting the ppl who raise and process the wool that we are all so enamoured with. I am so very privileged and grateful to be in community with everyone here πŸ’– by @pacificcoasterfibres

2024 coated partial fleece spun on Goddesses by Mizpah, laid on top of Millie's partial uncoated 2023 fleece. My uncontested favorite crossbred fleece, scoured, picked, carded, and spun meditatively on goddesses over the course of a year and some more. The art of slow making as emotional balm doesn't get much better than this.

@spindlebingo umm, intention setting post? πŸ™ƒ

I took this flatlay way back in November for Spingo but never got around to setting any official intentions. Granted, my intentions were much the same as last year's - to help foster a space where Spindlekin (name trademarked by @whatvivdoes) can gather and share knowledge, joy, and beauty. (Also my eternal goal of polishing off wips while compulsively starting new ones.)

Now that the event is almost over, I do wish I had the headspace to try more things and push my skills more. I think we did a good job with the board layout this year because even though I spun quite a lot in the last month, I did not hit a single Bingo bc I didn't go out of my way to do anything new (yes I am also quite strict with what I let myself count as checking off a square). But as far as community building goes, I think we knocked it out of the park. My fellow admins @abrennalinerush @j.ess.reads and @battyfibers and I are especially grateful for every one of you who took the time to make connections, cheer on, and skill share with fellow participants. I hope we are all finishing with full hearts as well as full spindles. I've loved spinning with you all, and I'll be seeing you here on IG, @prologue_tourdefleece, for Tour de Fleece, and wherever @spindlebingo lands in 2027!

The last big spin of @spindlebingo 2026!

This is one pound of Holly Blue from @ebrfarm, shared with me by (who else) @salenask . I leaned into the yellow tones in the tips of the fleece and blended in yellow and pink sari silks for these batts and am so happy with how the colours came out! @berleywool describes EBR CVM fleeces as having memory foam like texture, which is spot on. This was such an easy fleece to scour, pick and card, and I know I'm going to get the bounciest and airiest yarn when it's plied up.

I love having a big ongoing fleece-y spin that I can pick up whenever without thinking about it, and am a little bereft now that it's done! The batts were made in May '25 and slide 2 shows where I was before Spingo started.

All spindles pictured are @woodlandwoodworking except for one @stephenwillette that somehow snuck into the line up πŸ˜‚

@thewoodlandpixie Christkindlmarkt 2025

All spun on @woodlandwoodworking phangs Russians and wands.

The fade this year was spectacular! Really looking forward to working this up as some sort of gradient project.

Now I'm off to compare why I used to be able to balance 12 spindles against this chair back but couldn't this year πŸ˜‚

@mellyknits Great Guts Advent 2025

All the details were in stories and have been saved in a highlight titled gga 25. I'm so glad I decided to lay them all out to document as a whole after all - every day of this advent was such a treat. I ooh-ed, I ahh-ed, I oh-no-she-didn't-ed. It's been a privilege getting to play with this wonderfully curated collection. For once with the Melly Advents I was truly forced to let the individual days be what it wanted to be and to be spun on what the wool wanted to be spun on. Some of them will be 2 plied, some 3 plied, and one will stay as singles. Still hoping to get them all together for one project somehow though!

As a birthday gift to Melly I will now list my faves and least faves:

Fave: Finn + bison.

It was a toss up btwn this, the Romney cashgora that caused me to go buy a nighthawk Romney fleece, and my perennial fave haunui. But at the end of the day the Finn/bison really surprised me. It tested my obsessive full immersion blending tendencies to the limit - both because the bison wouldn't fully melt in and because there were two textures to the Finn fleece. But the resulting yarn is so full of character and the tactility of the draft was so much fun that I have to crown it πŸ‘‘

Least fave: Norbouillet+ kid mohair.

It's the kid mohair of it all. I'm a crimp lover and the mohair was killing the vibe of the near-perfect Norbouillet for me in that it made me have to change the amount of twist the wool would've otherwise wanted, by a lot.

Most surprising: Border Leicester + Tussah.

This goes back to me being a crimp lover! A truly special BL indeed that I utterly enjoyed every step of this blend even though I would never ever consider getting a BL fleece myself.

Honorable mention: the Icelandic day!
@clumsie_feeties and her support spindle spun singles really made this day fun for me. It felt like such a challenge but I think I nailed it and am super looking forward to see what the yarn becomes!

Thank you for everything, and I do mean everything, Melissa πŸ’–

@spindlebingo Use Your Handspun

Here is my Jaunty Shawl spun from @helloyarn Little Jaunt fibre on my @battyfibers rainbow pumpkin and acorn spindles 🌈

This project traversed some great emotional gulfs with me over the last six months and I'm really glad the little moments of joy, beauty and peace helped carry me through. And look, I get something beautiful and tangible out of it. This craft is truly a gift.

Details: I had 120g of DK handspun, used US 7 needles, and slowed down the rate of increase and decrease by 2 rows so I could get a longer shawlette with my limited yardage.

Happy @salenask Appreciation Day to all those who celebrate!

Featuring Irene the Columbia x Corriedale from @andersonfarmsmissouri that Salena sourced, processed and shared with me πŸ–€

 I will never not be thankful that I asked you about your tofu mold years ago. I had no idea the depth and breadth of friendship I would gain from that little interaction.

#3 Ply 1oz
#19 Finish a Languishing WIP

Here is ~50g of a @mellyknits batt, spun up on my Jenkins Nuthatch and plied on my Jenkins Dragonfly. 50g was prob a tad much at this wpi for the dragonfly but it did get the job done. This isn't my oldest wip by any means but we all agree this past January was 875 days long right??

I stayed up till way too late for two nights to ply this and it was strangely enjoyable - normally I'd ply on a drop spindle but I had wanted to put the Dragonfly through its paces. I find myself itching to do another cross arm ply job now. @battyfibers what have you infected me with??
