During Tour de Fleece, I usually like to try to learn something new or practice something I’m not good at. This time, I practiced wrapping turtles using a zine from @battyfibers and videos from @pacificcoasterfibres. My usual wonkily wrapped one is on the left for comparison. I still need practice but I now understand the appeal!

Red: Rambouillet x roving in the colourway “Mulled” from @knitbrooks - grown and milled in Nova Scotia 🇨🇦

The Spins: I would just like to start this by saying that I am a spoiled rotten brat. I am aware and I am happy to wear this label 🙋🏼‍♀️ I got to take a road trip through three gorgeous provinces with @agoulz my best friend in the whole wide world, tour and shop @customwoolenmills , visit @stashlounge (not pictured but possibly the coolest yarn store I’ve ever been to??), spin with the local guild members, pet a bunch of sheep, watch a shearing competition, meet great shepherds, buy a truck full of wool (those last five things all happening at Grasslands @sksheepdb ), eat good food and spindle spin incredible Canadian wool throughout it all! I know I’m not saying much about the spins themselves but I promise each was just lovely to work with ✨ Special mentions to Melody for her hand combing skills (that prep was a deeeelight!) and to Nellie for making me a precious bundle of my very favourite breed for the ultimate comfort spin ❤️

990g out of my 1kg goal! WHOOOOP! #stashdashers #dashelsroadtrip #tourdefleece

I have successfully broken my unintentional spindle fast! This is “Hans” (Wensleydale x Rambouillet), the base of a speed date from @mellyknits that Melody scored for me. I love this cross—it’s so spongy but easy to draft.

This gorgeous fibre is from Melody @pacificcoasterfibres and has traveled across oceans to get to me 🫶

A huge thank you to Melody 🙌

And also to the whole Team @spindlebingo
@j.ess.reads @battyfibers @abrennalinerush 👌

I really enjoyed the whole experience so much and getting a parcel like this in the post is next level unreal - I am allowing my self happy tears and hugging of said prise.

If you were not before, now you are considering joining next year - am I right?!

Not a spinner yet?
Enough time to get started!

Yesterday, I finished this handspun Cormus Collar for my sister’s birthday. The cream is from a CVM/silk batt that @berleywool made for me, which I spun on my Lendrum, and the blue 3-ply is from battlings that @pacificcoasterfibres made for me, which I spun on support spindles. I am finally comfortable with knitting stranded colorwork flat!

I did not get a blackout 🥲 but I am still incredibly proud of all I accomplished during this year's Spindle Bingo! Thank you @pacificcoasterfibres @battyfibers and @j.ess.reads ❤️ An almost full Bingo board with pictures over completed squares

I was planning to cap off @spindlebingo with some aesthetique golden hour spinning in a park but alas roadworks and public transport diversions means that my outdoor spinning was at a tram stop instead.

Checking off the "change things up" square also didn't go quite as planned - *somebody* thought it would be a good idea to pick up my short suspension spindle, that I have the least amount of experience with, and try to spin it left-handed. I did make a continuous thread, but it was certainly not the most elegant process or product.

And yet what a great prompt, and what a great example of the @spindlebingo ethos - trying out new things with a sense of curiosity and humour, exploring what's possible with the humble yet magical spindle.

I've had such a lovely time the last two months, and am super chuffed to have hit all the squares. I've expanded my spinning practice and connected with some wonderful fibre folk. As the icing on the cake, my mid-point prize from @j.ess.reads arrived yesterday, with an extra batt of Cheviot as a super generous surprise.

Thank you so much to @pacificcoasterfibres @j.ess.reads @battyfibers and @abrennalinerush for facilitating this lovely event - can't wait to do it again next year 💜

Last year, @pacificcoasterfibres very kindly proxy shopped for me at a fiber event I couldn’t attend and bought me my first ever @mellyknits “Hans” (Wensleydale x Rambouillet) speed date. If you’re unfamiliar with speed dates, Melissa starts with one fleece and blends it with four other wools/fibers, resulting in five mini batts for you to try and compare. I love this because it makes me try new things and Gene loves this because I do not need to buy five fleeces in order to try these new things.

I am spinning this on a support spindle gifted to me by @the1764shepherdess. 💜

My plans for #SpindleBingo2026 🌀 are, in no particular order:

🌀Spindle-spin at least five minutes every day (OK fine, five days out of every week. Gotta keep pressure to a minimum because this is about community and spinning joy!!!)

🌀Every photo I post will be SQUARE because I miss the days when instagram was all 1:1 aspect ratio

🌀Spin outdoor, in nature, at least once. I am so lucky to live so close to both the bush and the ocean and I really gotta appreciate it more

🌀Finish spinning at least 100g of my hand-processed, hand-dyed Bond (which is also part of the #JauntySAL so points for efficiency yeyeye)

🌀Make new spinning friends and slide into people's DMs more often cos that's how I got @duchessofsewssex and @louise.made.this as my yapping hostages~ (and @itsmyhamburger and @speckledbeckles and
@pacificcoasterfibres)
(Yarn cakes in pic 1 is not my handspun. I just love the colours and am fully in the Colour Dancer spirit that @duchessofsewssex has instigated for the year ✨️👌)

Spindle Bingo is here!

Happy Distaff Day, folks. The holidays are over, time to get back to your spinning. 🧶

This year we are doing things slightly differently - this page will act as a community hub, so please tag @spindlebingo in your stories so we can share them. And if you'd like, tag us as a post collaborator so others can see and celebrate your spinning, too! Do check out the links in bio for the bingo board, supplementary information, and if you are so inclined, prize donations!

For every bingo you accomplish, you get one entry to win a prize. If you accomplish a blackout, that earns you five additional entries. Once you've won a prize, we invite you to keep playing, but you will not be eligible for additional prizes -- we need to spread the love. 🍀

Happy spinning & thank all of you lovely humans for being here. 🫶🏻

Hello, this is your resident spindle instigator Melody / @pacificcoasterfibres here. I've been an avid spindler for a bit over three years now.

My favorite spindle story is that the spindle that got me HOOKED was a misprinted 3D printed cross arm spindle that someone had given my then four year old as a toy. The shaft was misprinted, it wobbled like crazy, and there was no half hitch. Yet once I picked it up and started spinning and making yarn, there was no looking back. I am forevermore enchanted by our ability to make string and joy from simple sticks and fluff.

My husband's favorite spindle story is of the first time I stumbled upon photos of ppl doing big spins across multiple spindles, and I snarkily commented that no one in their right mind needs that many spindles.

Look, in my defense, never in my life have I ever claimed to be a sane person. 🤪

My resident fluff inspector is The Spruce Hog; he has excellent taste. Please enjoy a random carousel of things that make my heart sing. I'm excited to natter on about sticks and fluff with all of you!!

Spindle Bingo Returns Jan 7th 2026!

Dust off your spindles and do your warm up stretches, spindle folk! On St. Distaff's day we are back at it! This year Spindle Bingo will run for 2 months (1/7-3/7) and we will again be featuring the bingo grid challenge, community building, and prize draws. Make sure you are following the @spindlebingo account as all official communications and community shenanigans will be hosted here!

Spindle Bingo is brought to you by @battyfibers @j.ess.reads and @pacificcoasterfibres , and this year we are super excited to have the extraordinary @abrennalinerush on board as a co-host! All the photos in the reel (and the ASMR whispers) come from Brenna the Brave, so if you weren't already familiar with her work - you're welcome!!
