2026 Ski to Sea: WOW

Let's start with the fact that I have never participated, volunteered, or been around @officialskitosea weekend. Most locals are either heavily involved or deliberately out of town for Ski to Sea. I have always been the latter until this year.

I jumped in with two feet and had the privilege to document behind the scenes from start to finish for @pacificmultisports - the timing and results for Ski to Sea - and that's where the WOW comes in.

I thought I knew the large and small nuances of event directing but it was quite the eye opener witnessing up close the monster logistics of an event like Ski to Sea, especially in regards to timing and results. 😳

Hats off to Marc Blake and team, the @officialskitosea crew, and every volunteer involved. I'll be back with a new found respect.

Hard. Hot. Beautiful.
Blood. Sweat. Mud.

Santa Barbara Nine Trails Race was everything you'd want in a challenge and more. The half distance of 17.5 miles climbed over 5,200ft of rocky, sun-exposed terrain. Those who did the full must be super human.

While I would've loved to train specifically for this race, it was probably the best, most memorable last-minute sign-up ever.

Worth every bruise. 🥰💕

Race Recap!

A little over a week ago, I had the blessing and opportunity to take on Ironman 70.3 Tri-Cities! The atmosphere, spectators, and volunteers were absolutely electric! Best of all, I was able to race alongside @andrewstevens0 and have the support of our family and friends on course.

I'm happy to say that I finished in 5:07:16 all while holding off quad cramping at the end of it. I wouldn't have been able to do it without @coach.ryan.tridot and his bottomless well of confidence in my abilities!

The Swim: 26:28

Over the last couple of months, I was only able to get in the pool 3-4 times. Needless to say, I was stoked that this was a down river swim!

The Bike: 2:54:10

The bike definitely tested my ability to pace and adjust on the fly. Learning from my early pacing mistakes in Oregon, I decided to ease into the first 5 miles and focused on taking in nutrition. This proved to be a smart move as we moved into miles 10 to 40. This section of the course was beautiful but challenging with a few big climbs. Not to mention that headwinds added even more difficulty. Thankfully, after mile 40-ish, I was able to cruise my way downhill back towards transition.

The Run: 1:39:16

Wow. What a run. I felt really good out of transition and my legs wanted to go faster than the race plan. So I followed my gut and trusted my body. The first half of the run was smooth and quick. As I hit the mile 7-8 after the turnaround, the battle really began. I was fighting of cramps in my quads for most of run to the finish. Luckily, I didn't fully cramp till I got across finish! All in all a solid day!

THE FIGHT FACE.
Captured so well from @mtbakerhillclimb
After no big races since May, I've been looking forward to this bike race all summer. Primary goal: break 1:30. Last year, I finished 1:31 in peak IMC shape. 💪
1 mile into the actual climb (13 miles into the race), I crashed. As I watched the elites drift into the distance, I got back up. Handlebars askew. Back derailleur f***ed. I pushed HARD. Harder than I have in very long time. Within 10 min I started to see the girl who finished 2nd to me last year. There was a small chase group just in front of her. I knew if I held high enough power, I could catch her and together we could close that gap. About 15 min holding 270w and I made it to her wheel. Then we did just that. We worked hard to close the gap, and sure enough, there was another top female rider in that group. & just ahead of that, the gal in first place in sight. I was in shock to still be in the running. By this point, I was overcooked, legs purple and numb as they do now, but I pushed on. I soon realized my sub 1:30 was still a possibility as well as a top 5 spot.
Finish time 1:29:08 and 4th overall. After a crash. Hand, hip, and BOTH buttcheeks severly bruised. (All of which I didn't notice until the post race adrenaline drop. 🤣)

I'm grateful.

Grateful for a strong mental game.
Grateful for the gals that inspired me.
Grateful the Bham TNT boys who pushed me every Tuesday leading into this.
I lapped my Garmin at the start of the climb, and afterwards I discovered I held 257w for those last 51min.
This gives me hope. Maybe even the desire to attempt tri again soon. 🥰✌️

Thank you, Whatcom Events, for an incredible day! 🌦⛰️💕 taken in Artist Point, Washington by @pacificmultisports
