It’s that time of year when I get to embarrass the master gardener. This year, in addition to fruits and vegetables, the garden is an explosion of colorful flowers, all started from seed in the greenhouse many months ago.

I thought it was a little overkill, but have to admit they’re beautiful both in the garden and in the house. I think I even missed a few. The place is crazy with color.

Kudos to my own personal master gardener! Thanks for making it so lovely around the place.

If you’ve ever visited, you may remember the condition of the woods. Well, a man, we’ll call him Doug, appeared a bit over a year ago and has methodically and magically transformed the place. The sunlight through the trees? A year ago, you wouldn’t have seen it. The chips on the path? It sure looks better than a slash pile!

The early nerd gets the…. what rhymes with worm here? I had some lucky timing on the East River on my morning walk before flying out. The sundog (more likely an aberration on the lens) on his lance was not planned, but looks nice.

The “Good Defeats Evil” sculpture, formally known as the Statue of Saint George, was a gift from the country of Georgia to the United Nations in 2005. It’s located in the UN Sculpture Garden in New York City.

Created by Georgian artist Zurab Tsereteli, the bronze statue depicts Saint George on horseback, triumphantly slaying a dragon. While Saint George is a revered figure in many cultures, in Georgia, he is particularly significant as their patron saint. The sculpture’s placement at the UN is meant to symbolize the global pursuit of peace, justice, and the victory of good over evil, reflecting the UN’s mission itself. It’s a powerful and inspiring piece for visitors to the UN headquarters.
