Well, “The Gate, the Girl and the Dragon” hit the list at #2! On both Indie list and The NY Times! 😮

I kind of felt shy to post this because it seemed sort of braggy but I know this wouldn’t have happened without all of you preordering, spreading the word and sharing about the book. There was A LOT of hard work to get this book there. 💜🙏So thank you. Truly. by @pacylin

Ah, it’s that point in the book tour that I don’t know what day of the week it is and I go to yesterday’s hotel room number. Book tour sounds glamorous until you realize it’s getting on a plane every day. But it’s been fun, even though my memory of everything is somewhat blurred. My photos have been few but I did take these of the lovely @covertocoverchildrensbooks —they have these super sweet mouse dioramas (make me want have something similar for @high_five_books ) as well as a beautiful Rudine Sims Bishop quote. And I’ve visited so many awesome schools where kids will now always know 6+1=😺 though I hope they remember the book, too. And I hope I remember more too, after the book tour travel is complete! by @pacylin

📖 This Banned Books Week, we’re spotlighting the importance of the freedom to read by celebrating HSB authors whose books are banned or challenged across the US.

🌟 As an author whose work has been challenged and banned, Grace Lin is a champion of the freedom to read.

📚 Book bans deny young people access to stories that broaden their understanding of the world or help reflect their experiences on the page. We stand with authors, educators, and librarians in the fight to protect the freedom to read. You can join the fight by reading and supporting works that are being challenged. by @pacylin

It’s a book! It’s the official book birthday for “The Little Stone Buddha”! Went to visit some lovely schools courtesy of @rjjulia yesterday to kick things off, where I am now teaching kids 6+1=😺! Also saw old writing friends @katiedavisburps and @heyleslieconnor , so it was a happy start to the book. Hope to see people tonight in Columbus and later this week in Winnetka, Denver and Berkeley!! by @pacylin

Had a lovely event @porter_square_books to start off my tour! Many thanks to those that came. Afterwards, I made the trek to go eat at @meetfreshusa and was rewarded not just by yummy dessert but a lion dance sighting! I hope that is a good sign for the rest of the tour! Hope to see you today @rjjulia ! by @pacylin

Full episode available on YouTube or wherever you listen to podcasts!

Grace and Alvina discuss a recent Hidden Brain+ podcast episode that discussed some of the potential negatives of goal setting. Linear goal setting may cause people to skip the exploration stage, and it might be more beneficial to use “tiny experiments” to learn what actually works. They talk about how in the scientific world, you ask a question, and the only goal is to learn. Two recent Happiness Lab episodes reinforced this, talking about how small changes can be the most effective.

For the Fortune Cookie segment, they talk about Generative AI, and the new guidelines that SCBWI recently released, banning AI use for any part of the creative process.

Then, Alvina tells Grace about a backlist title SHARK VS TRAIN by Chris Barton and Tom Lichtenheld, which was recently featured in the New York Times. And, then end as always with what they’re grateful for.

Today is the first event for my “Little Stone Buddha” book tour! Not sure what expect as this book feels a bit quieter than my others, so I came to Boston last night so I could also see the #bostonzoolights ! It was as beautiful as usual, though I have to admit I missed the mystical animals they have included in the past—last time I went they included the Chinese Kun fish which now makes an appearance in my upcoming Goldfish Man novel! But there was a goldfish, which I take as a good sign. And there were cats—which, I hope to feature in my next novel…so the lights are still encouraging me!
Hope to see you in on the road!! by @pacylin

It was sunny this morning so I decided to squeeze in one last run to the marsh to capture it in its autumn glory! It will be so interesting to see it after 2 weeks away…but I hope to see You in these next two weeks while I’m tour! by @pacylin

“Jin is a stone lion. While trying to perfect his zuqiu kick, he accidentally knocks over the sacred sphere, which rolls out of the spirit gate and into the human world.

This book is about Jin’s adventure outside the spirit realm where he meets a girl named Lulu and a worm that claims to be a dragon. Together, they work to find the sacred sphere and get Jin back home.

I like the style of Grace Lin’s writing because it leaves me with no idea what’s going to happen next. She includes some beautiful illustrations as well.

I recommend this book to people who like mysteries, a sense of adventure, dusted with some magic and an oriental twist.
