Why do Bangladeshi stories matter? Why buy a book like Appetite, a story that centers a Bangladeshi immigrant? What do we want to share with the world about us?

@tazisbooked asked me to pitch Appetite and I wanted to share why this book means something so much more to me than myself, and i want this to be a start. there are millions of Bangladeshi stories that deserve to be told. Thank you @narrativebookshop for supporting Bangladeshi voices in literature and being such a beacon of inspiration yourself.

i don't usually post screengrabs from my sbstack posts, but this is one that's worth a read (not because of quality but because it is me baring my soul a little). on names that are hard to pronounce, on differentiating padya vs p, on just getting to know me and my inner world as we get closer to Appetite's pub date. read the full thing if you want (in story, bye-oh etc) but there's also snippets here. lmk what you think :) much love to you and all the love in the world to baby padya by @padya307

absolutely devastating to be attending the last connecticut sun game ever in connecticut womens pro basketball history. this team gave me and us so much joy since we moved to the state of CT and it's been an honor getting to watch and meet legends like Alyssa Thomas, Dewanna Bonner, Tina Charles, and Brittney Griner, and superstars and current and rising stars like DiJonai Carrington, Marina Mabrey, Saniya Rivers, Olivia Nelson-Ododa and more. women's basketball is incredible and something CT helped pioneer so this is so painful, especially with how unfair the sale was. so so so so grateful for the last 5 years and will miss geing a season ticket holder so much. taken in Mohegan Sun by @padya307

Huge thanks to P. Paramita for coming in to sign copies of APPETITE! Audrey read and loved this one, saying “This was such a good read. Zarina is a Bangladeshi American aspiring Chef who also loves women’s pro wrestling. She gets inspiration from both…The food descriptions are just scrumptious and I would eat her food any day.” Signed copies are still available!

i made a very spontaneous decision to come to bangladesh because my grandma could no longer recognize me. it's been an emotional, sleepless, weird, reflective time full of nice food that maybe i did not appreciate as much as i usually do. really grateful to have done this, really bittersweet about life in general. by @padya307

i'm not doing any Appetite events in dhaka this time round to spend time with my family but it was so wonderful to drop by @bookwormbangladesh where Appetite sold out the first time round - BUT NOW THEY HAVE MORE, go get your copy! They've created such a wonderful space full of diverse English books in Dhaka in such a gorgeous park. So proud to visit and so proud to be from this city and write a book about someone from this city! by @padya307
