Today is National Read a Book Day!!

I’d like to recommend one of my favorite authors, Kristin Harmel! I admit I’m still working through her entire collection, but the ones I have read, I’ve loved.

The Room on Rue Amelie is one of my favorites. The middle was a little bit tedious to get through but the emotional ending more than made up for it. And in my book, ugly tears = 5 stars.

What better way to celebrate Book Lovers Day than gushing about one of my favorite books!

I LOVE this book. Top to bottom, front to back, all of it!

With some of Abby Jimenez’s books, I am just dying for the MC’s to just talk about it already! Get into it and through it! With this one, I didn’t feel that way. There’s so much emotional turmoil and damage to get through, that it doesn’t feel too slow. I loved all the side stories and appearances from characters from past books in the series. The gasp I gasped when the DNA results game in... phew.

I just love these characters and wish I could dive into this world!

Today is the last day of July, which is incredibly hard to believe. And has me thinking how much our lives have changed in the last month.

Meet Chai ❤️. She joined our family on July 2nd. My husband planned and kept her a secret for MONTHS until we parked at a house in northern PA and got to meet and take home this sweet girl.

Backstory - we lost our first family dog last November. She was my soul dog. She had a way of looking right into your heart and giving kisses that made you feel so incredibly loved. My angel baby was named Millie.

The four of us grieved long and hard with the usual unexpected moments stealing the breath right from your lungs. In late winter, the boys and I started to feel like we were healing and maybe ready to expand our family again. My husband always said no - we didn’t need another dog, there were projects to be done at the house, we were too busy, etc. Little did we know, he was already scheming.

Pictures started showing up on my facebook feed from the breeder we got our first girl from. Her kennel had puppies year round, but all of a sudden I was seeing them. On May 7th a litter was born - 6 adorable blue heeler puppies. Babies and Momma were healthy. Oh and momma’s name— Millie.

The next few months were a blur as end of school years are. My husband and I were trying to plan our summer trips and he mentioned a “place” he wanted to take us to on July 4th weekend. It would be a surprise and there would be no hints.

Well, Chai was our surprise. She’s oh so easily worked her way into our hearts. She’s a sweet and spicy girl who, though has her own personality and quirks, gives us a little bit of our Millie back.

Ok, sappy moment over… 😮‍💨 Say hello to Chai ❤️🤍 by @pages.everlasting

Another awesome shop on the Avenue in Rehoboth is @thebeachshoprb

They have an amazingly cool selection of items in their store that celebrates inclusivity. I love seeing the children’s books of families that don’t fit the “usual” mold. The sections celebrating different cultures by their food was also a favorite.

This little shop is well worth the stop! by @pages.everlasting

Back home and reminiscing about the beach. Of course, I had to make a stop at my favorite bookshop @browseaboutbooks

I’m pretty sure I spent over an hour mindlessly wandering the shelves. And I may have made a second trip back in while the kids were at Funland. 🤫

As usual, the variety of goodies made it hard to stick to a budget. But, much to my chagrin, I succeeded. ☹️ by @pages.everlasting

The second in the Lovelight Farm series was a solid 4 star read for me.

It’s a great continuation of a story around a collaborative business. The romance is sweet and I could really appreciate that the MMC wasn’t perfect. It was refreshing!

I don’t read a lot of series. It feels like too big of a commitment. But if there’s one I just HAVE to read, what would you recommend? by @pages.everlasting

I really don’t have anything original or exciting to say about this one. It’s all already been said!!

So I’ll just say that I loved this book and the beautiful story of friendship. The Beartown series is still my favorite by this author, but this is a close 2nd! by @pages.everlasting

Fast paced mystery. Loved the integration of factual information regarding the endangered wolverine. There was enough of it that it inspired me to look up more on the animal.

A bit was quite far fetched (though Alex is a total badass and I love that for her). But overall, the story won me over and I’m looking forward to reading more Alex Carter novels!

Hi there, it’s me! I’ve been taking pictures and collecting my thoughts with plans to share some incredible reads as I’ve finished them… whelp, here we are with an album dedicated to these books begging to be shared. Maybe I’ll get my act together and post a few… more likely, the album will continue to grow. 🤷‍♀️

Anyway… Notes on an Execution…

I read this book in 2025 and man, what a story. Honestly it’s extremely hard to put into words. This is the story of Ansel, a murderer who is sitting on death row just 12 hours away from execution. But it’s told from the perspective of the women in his life - the one’s he has murdered and those who’ve survived him.

One of my favorite things about this book is just how incredibly thought provoking it is - the death penalty, the justice system, the survivors, good and evil, and the strange obsession with serial killers. Danya Kukafka says it best in her Author’s Note: “Average men become interesting when they start hurting women. Notes on an Execution was born from a desire to dissect this exhausting narrative.”

The last “official” stop on my anniversary book tour was an adorable gift shop with a packed 2nd floor room full of books called @litthomeandbook

The bottom floor was full of giftable items. The front room being geared towards adults and the back for kids. Many items were quirky and gave my husband and I a good laugh. It’s the perfect spot if you’re looking for a not-so-Hallmarky greeting card.

In edition to the book room, there is also a room filled with whimsical sticky notes, journals, quality pens and other stationery on the second floor.

I purchased World of Wonders here and can’t wait to read it this summer! I love a good nature nonfiction! by @pages.everlasting

Let’s talk about THE cutest cafe I’ve ever been to. @bakeshopjville is a must go in Jeffersonville, NY. They have a variety of tasty treats and a delicious Chai latte! The vibes are all about cozy community. Their little library is floor to ceiling books. Take one down to purchase or find a comfy corner to sit and read awhile.

Honestly this was one of my favorite stops of the whole trip.! by @pages.everlasting
