Witchlings Book 5: The Sea Witch Prophecy

First, let me start by saying this is one of my favorite middle grade series. I have maybe a handful of middle grade books that I would still reread and this is one of them. Witchlings forever!

The battle isn’t over yet. Ambert is still on the loose, trying to gain enough signatures to run as chancellor in the special election. Seven, Thorn, and Valley know it’s up to them, and only them, to save their home Ravenskill. They discover an odd prophecy: “Hidden monstruos / A fallen moon / A sacrifice / To end the doom”. The prophecy takes them beyond Ravenskill in an adventure in the Twelve Towns. Their voyage across the sea is anything but peaceful. There are spies, monsters and of course, betrayals. Will they beat Ambert and save their town? Or will it all go up in flames?

AHH what a fantastic end to the Witchlings series, although I am sad it's over. The character development from book one all the way to The Sea Witch Prophecy was so amazing to read. I loved how we got to see more of what’s beyond Ravenskill in this book and seeing the girls embrace their powers and be so strong is really inspiring. I do have to say that my favorite character is still Beefy but Valley comes in as a close second! I cosplayed as Valley once upon a time, so she will always be near and dear to me. @claribel_ortega ... this was such a phenomenal series. Can't wait to see what's next!

Not Ava, not the professors, and certainly not her friends Crow, Tinabella, and Henry himself. Everytime Ava starts devising a spectacular, outlandish, and possibly dangerous plan, the teachers step in with their speeches about ‘letting the adults handle it’. Ava has water/plant magic ans desperately hopes to save Henry, but of course, it backfires and ends up getting them into an even bigger predicament. With a new, and slightly untrustworthy addition to the team, Ava has to save Henry and her friends because there may be a bigger foe awaiting them.

Awww .... this was so cute and fun! And while I didn’t read the other books in the series, I’m definitely inclined to now. Honestly, this book os appropriate for all ages who love a light hearted, heart warming, and belly laughter read. Ava and her friends were hilarious but the book still contained the perfect balance of action to go with it.

Bad Things Happened Here

Sam is in Singapore visiting his grandma for the summer. But its been awkward ever since Sam’s mom died. But being in Singapore with his culture and finding his mom’s old room is a welcomed adventure. And then .... he starts seeing ghosts. Not just any ghosts, either. His dead mother’s ghost is there right in front of him, but in a 12 year old her form. She’s rough around the edges and doesn’t let Sam call her ‘mom’ no matter how much it hurts him. But this isn't all bad, right? He gets to spend time with his mom when she was his age. But never say never because things do get worse when his mom stops coming by. Sam finds out that she’s being haunted by another ghost and a vengeful one at that. Can Sam save his mom, or will he lose her again?

This is paranormal done well. It was short but so impactful. I loved the Singaporean culture, and I really felt Sam’s heartache. It was funny, it was emotional, it was character development and overall great writing. Perfect for the season. And don't let the cover fool you, the book is spooky, eerie, and deeply feeling. Highly recommend!

Hyoyoung has always dreamt of being a director but has had to put her dream on hold because of financial struggles at home. On top of that, her older sister has been adding to the drama and Hyoyoung feels like she's coming apart. She takes refuge by leaving her hometown for Seoul, Korea's bustling capital. There she finds her classmate, Seonho, and works at his letter boutique, Geulwol. Geulwol is a place where customers can write anonymous pen pal style letters and reapons to them as well. It provides a safe space to read and respond to complete stranger’s letters. Therapy via anonymous strangers! While working at Geulwol, Hyoyoung connects with a man named Yeonggwang and the beginnings of a new and much needed friendship forms. Through Yeonggwang, Hyoyoung learns to communicate her struggles ans grief and maybe even learn to heal.

Very sweet, very touching, and very comforting. This was a great cozy book filled with a heartwarming, gentlet touches throughout. It's like drinking a warm cup of honey tea! The writing was well done and Hyomin’s letters were especially touching. I also loved the epilogue so much. The ending was so satisfying!

The Baby-Sitters Club is going on a trip! Kristy, Claudia, Stacy, Mary Anne, Dawn and Mallory are going to go on a plane ride to Florida, a cruise to the Bahamas, and then a huge amusement park back in Florida. On the trip, Claudia finds out that she has a secret admirer, Dawn meets a wonderful boy, Kristy meets a grumpy old man who actually has a warm heart, and of course, they still have to babysit. It’s a whirlwind of emotions, newfound love, friendships, and best of all .... babysitting!!

This was told from all of the BSC members' points of views. I really enjoyed that because they each had their own story but it was all intertwined at the same time. Kirsty and Dawn were genuinely so funny when they were fighting and all the little kids were super cute and hilarious as well. This was such a fun read!

The Porches figure that it’s time for them to find out more about their parents. So, Gertrude, Dee Dee, and Eugenia decide to embark on their mission to ParisToo. But of course, nothing is so easy. The girls run into multiple horrible things, spiders, a scary jungle, and Talon Sharktuth. And the Nut of the Month Club? It may not be what it seems either.

So funny. This book was so funny, exciting, whimsical, and quirky. Again, Millicent Quib School of Etiquette comes back with its classic spunk. Gertrude, Dee Dee, and Eugenia are honestly so funny, as are all of the characters, but my favorite has to be the narrator. Dramatic in the perfect ways, this was a fantastical read

Plot Twists!!! This book kepy catching me off guard! I never knew what was happening! I especially enjoyed snippets of Weaver and Periwinkle's dreams/nightmares. Together, they made such a great duo with their sarcastic humor! Disney done with humor, a little snark and did I mention plot twists?!

Their cousin, Atrocious, who is NOT Shenanigan’s favorite cousin, has called them to solve a mystery. There’s an assassin on the loose who is trying to kill Dandelion’s Uncle, Charlie. But the weather is not cooperating and they are snowed-in. Being snowed-in in a 72 story behemoth greenhouse with an assassin, endless suspects, clues, and nonsensical happenings…. well, that's just not ideal. And how can Shenangian trust Atrocious? I mean, look at the meaning of her name!

True to @bethatintervals, this was so witty and funny. And the ending was 👌. Beth Lincoln’s classic word play and humor were in full effect. This book was so charming and I always have so much fun meeting new Swifts!!
