Okay, this one’s for anyone who’s ever looked at a publishing job and immediately thought, “Well... I definitely can’t apply for that.” 👀

Because I promise you, you’re probably selling yourself short.

There are so many transferable skills that publishers look for, and you might already be using them every single day without even thinking about it. Whether that’s from retail, hospitality, marketing, customer service, uni, volunteering... it all counts.

So I thought it’d be fun to break down some of the things you might actually be doing in an entry-level publishing role, and the skills that go hand in hand with them.

Hopefully this makes job descriptions feel a little less intimidating and reminds you that everyone has to start somewhere. 🫶🏽

As always, if there’s anything else you’d like me to cover about getting into publishing, let me know! I absolutely love making this kind of content.

I fear a good book adaptation can change the trajectory of my entire week. 🙂‍↕️

Some of these made me immediately pick up the book, some convinced me I need to read the book ASAP, and some have me hoping and praying we’ll see them hit our screens.

Please tell me your favourite adaptation because I’m always looking for my next obsession! 🫶🏽

Trying to get into publishing without having a publishing degree? It’s not impossible, I promise 🫶🏽

I’m still very early in my career, but these are the 5 things that genuinely helped me get my foot in the door (without everything being perfect or linear).

If you’re applying right now, feeling a bit stuck, or wondering if it’s even realistic for you — this is your sign to keep going!
What’s meant for you won’t pass you by. Sometimes rejections really are just redirections.

I’d love to know, what part of publishing are you trying to get into? Or is there anything else you’d love to know more about? 📖

Always feel free to drop me a message, I’d love to chat 🥰

I’ve got some gorgeous hot holidays on the horizon, and you already know exactly where you’ll find me: securely stationed on my sun lounger, Fanta Lemon on tap, tuning out the world while I dive into these books. 🙂‍↕️

I’ve put together my ultimate summer TBR with a few books I’ve been meaning to read for far too long, and hopefully a couple of new favourites in the making.

Whether I actually get through all of them is another story..., but I’m always optimistic!!

Now I need your help. Which one absolutely has to make it into my suitcase? And if you’ve read any of these already, I’d love to know your thoughts! I also added some of my recent faves that I think you just have to get involved with before the end of the season.

Happy summer reading, besties. 🫶🏽

Alright you lot, I promised I’d be back with more publishing job content for you. 🙂‍↕️

This one’s for any of my babes outside of the big smoke who want to see more from someone based in a national office.

Here’s a little day in my life, from an early train and a mandatory matcha stop to co-hosting a webinar, chatting all things paid campaigns, creating TikTok content, catching up with my team in person and, of course, fitting in a little book chat along the way.

Just a small moment to give my company their flowers for heading beyond London and giving us Northern gals the chance to get our foot in the door whilst staying put up here. It’s something I genuinely love and will never take for granted.

Hope you enjoyed coming along for the day! See you in the next one. 🫶🏽

Okay, well, first of all, let’s address that my nails are absolutely minute.

Anyways…

Direbound: I’ve had this since Christmas and may have to be on my summer reading list.

The Frozen River: Martha Ballard, incredible women.

The Great Alone: OBBBVIOUSLY I hate Ernt. I know there are so many layers to his behaviour and reasons behind it. But he had better stay far from me.

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue: It’s been a while since I read this, but Addie is still my girl! I’ll rec to everyone.

The Five: A fab read. Non-fiction and taking the limelight from Jack the Ripper, and bringing it back to the victims and their lives.

Got the idea from @whatsrobsreading & tagging some of my faves!

REPORT REPORT REPORT! 🤭

So May came and went in the blink of an eye, much like June is about to do, but my little hiatus isn’t going to stop me talking about one of my favourite months of the year so far.

May started with a mother-daughter trip to Barcelona, followed by a trip to Manchester to see Conan Gray with one of my favourite people. Then later in the month, I got to see Marina with my bestest friend. ❤️

I also read some incredible books. Obviously, I love my queen Kristin Hannah, but shout out to Wild. I don’t see nearly enough people talking about how incredible that book is. Please, I am begging for a screen adaptation.

As usual, there were some incredible eats along the way, which I’ve included too.

As I mentioned, I’ve definitely been giving MIA for most of June, but we’re back now. Back to scheduled programming. Thank you all for sticking around, this really is my favourite place on the internet 💌 taken in BOOKSTA by @paging_gracefully

So it looks as though you loved part one! So we’re back for part two for reads perf for summer. 🫶🏽

If you’re stuck in a reading slump, overwhelmed by your TBR, or simply have no idea what to pick up next, I’ve got you covered. I’ve matched seven different colours to seven different books, and your next read is just one choice away.

Pick your favourite shade (or the first colour that catches your eye) and if you’ve already read your colour’s book, let me know what you thought.

I’m curious to see whether my recommendations are hitting or missing.

The last five books I… and now my entire personality is on display 🫪

From books that emotionally ruined me to ones I haven’t stopped thinking about since the final page, this trend is one of my faves.

Thanks to my queen @ambersanthologies for tagging me in this, tagging more of my faves to pass this on.

Although I am a self-confessed blurb avoider, I haven’t seen this idea anywhere before, but I had far too much fun turning myself into a book blurb. 📖

Consider this your official notice that I’ll be tagging all my besties because I need to see how they’d write themselves too!

Apparently, my entire personality can be summarised by audiobooks, matcha, library trips, dried mango, and an increasingly concerning preference for blonde men. 🫪

Now I need to know: what would make it into your character description?

Reading doesn’t need to be an expensive hobby, and as someone who reads a lot of books every year, I’ve picked up a few tricks to keep the costs down.

Buckle in for an absolute yap through these slides because I have thoughts on library cards, second-hand bookshops, eBooks and all the other ways I convince myself my TBR isn’t costing me a fortune.

If you’re trying to read more without spending hundreds of pounds, hopefully there’s something in here that helps.

What’s your best money-saving bookish tip? 💸
