POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

It’s my favorite time of year. The weather gets cooler, the sun is lower on the horizon, the leaves are just beginning to change, and our regional Burn is coming up.

Today was to be the first work weekend for our Connecticut Regional Burning Man event, NECTR. Because of the nor’easter, we have postponed until next weekend, which gave me a rainy day off. So I decided to take a trip down memory lane of my home burn, NECTR, and the big burn, which I attended in 2010 and 2016, by making a little shrine.

The window seat provides the perfect space for the doorway to my dome from Burning Man 2010. Before my first burn, I researched the environment there and made my living structure, its coverings, and these desert appropriate outfits based on what I learned about weather and the 10 principles. The dome doorway, garments, and accessories are made of upcycled cotton curtains to protect me from sun and dust. I love the dust and welcomed it into my life, just not into my lungs.

The photograph is a gift, taken from a plane preparing to land in Black Rock City in 2010.

The tall glass vile contains dust given to me by another friend after I busted his Burner cherry in 2016.

The jewelry and tokens are a highly curated selection of the many gifts I’ve received at these events. ❤️‍🔥

I was at a Burning Man event called The Night Market, when I met Adrian Roberts, the producer of “piss clear”, a snarky paper delivered at the big burn in Nevada.

Adrian needed a website editor and I was eager for information before my first big burn. In exchange for editing the website, I was given a 13-year anthology of piss clear. I highly recommend reading the article written by the 11-year-old. Very enlightening. I still need to find a nice way to display the anthology.

What a lovely way to spend a nor’easter!🔥
Looking forward to getting to work on the event next weekend.

Moving to a new place is a way of rediscovering your possessions. You are reunited with things you haven’t seen in a while and remember what you left behind, or what was lost. My things were in storage for over 6 months.

It was a joy to unpack this piece made when I was 18/19. Like many teenagers, I had a problem sleeping. Paying homage to this brilliant visionary’s creations took up the hours from 10pm-3am for a bit, and brought new life to this fav Calvin Klein jacket.

Like many creatives, copying others’ artwork taught me how to draw. It was also a change from the tight manual architectural drafting I was studying in College.

This is one of those rare works I signed on the front! I think there are only two in existence. Most of my artwork is signed on the back to leave space for the work itself. I hesitate to call this jacket decoration my artwork because it’s so plagiaristic. Thoughts?

I recently watched the Neil Gaiman documentary, and it was kismet to unpack this jacket the very next day. Thanks, Dream King, Death, and all the other Siblings for keeping me company those sleepless nights.

My interview with @readytoconnectpodcast was anything but boring. They took a pause from their fantastical series on hauntings to ask me how I blend Art and Interior Design with Reiki.

Listen on Patreon May 18, or May 19 anywhere you listen to podcasts. Many thanks to Lisa and Ryan for asking such thoughtful questions.
