@fundacionrinconesartefri , Ivan Rinconesarte, is making a dream come true for dozens of Latin American artists. It all started as a rumor, a conversation overheard in Colombia. Ivan was talking to someone about his exhibitions in New York and New Jersey and mentioned that he would love to have a show in New London! Someone overheard him and asked, do you mean New London, Connecticut? Word got back to the @newlondon_artscouncil through @angelafelisaa and the conversation continued. Over the next month, Ivan and I had many communications in Spanish through WhatsApp and arranged for his artwork to be exhibited at the @hispanicalliancesect for a week. We installed the artwork on Tuesday, April 23 and held an opening reception that same night. Ivan‘s friend @abdon_sax played saxophone while guests danced, sang, and viewed the 55 works on display. That Friday, April 26, Ivan gave a talk about the Rinconesarte project, which involves a network of Latin American artists. The work has exhibited in London, Madrid, New York, New London, and many other cities around the world. Ivan describes the artwork and the artists as a patchwork. When he meets a new Latin American artist and they become part of the exhibit, he is adding another piece of fabric to a quilt encompassing all Latin America. A special thank you to @rinconesarte for the beautiful beaded hummingbird necklace from Colombia. I wear it with honor. I’d like to thank the following people who made this exhibit, and Ivan‘s dream of bringing this project to New London, a reality.
