“One of the standout local exhibits came from BASEstud.io, a Palm Springs-based company dedicated to reimagining the ubiquitous urban streetlight through artificial intelligence. Their smart streetlights represent a major leap forward for green infrastructure by incorporating integrated solar panels to generate renewable energy on-site, internal battery storage to keep lights functional during blackouts, public WiFi mesh networks to expand digital access, and built-in electric vehicle charging stations to provide accessible curbside options for local drivers.”

The PS/NExT Summit (New Experiences in Technology) — our second annual — was another sold-out event and something altogether special. I’m proud to have led the Business Track that was alive with the energy of hundreds of attendees at every session who left with practical ideas and instruction they can put into action. Many thanks to our expert speakers & panelists: Marisa “Ritzy” Estrada Rivera, Jeff Harrison, Travis McBurney, Jon Sukarangsan, and Mark Talkington. So proud of what we accomplished together. taken in Palm Springs, California by @palmspringsnext

In case you missed it, one of the most exciting presentations during PS/NExT was from Heidi Adams of BASEstud.io

Stronger than steel and built to withstand fires, floods, and storms, their advanced composite poles set a new standard in infrastructure. With minimal maintenance and longer lifespans, they cut lifecycle costs and boost long-term ROI.

Each pole generates solar energy and stores it in onboard batteries—keeping lights on during blackouts and emergencies. This local energy support helps keep power flowing to homes during power failures and high-demand events.

Each pole doubles as a WiFi hotspot, creating a reliable network that stays online even during outages. It keeps people connected—whether for everyday use or emergency response.

Their poles offer Level 2 curbside EV charging—bringing convenient, revenue-generating infrastructure to neighborhoods, campuses, and commercial districts. It’s a scalable way to accelerate EV adoption where people actually park.

We are so proud and excited to participate in this year’s PS?NExT Summit focused on new experiences in technology. This morning Superintendent of Schools Dr. Marcus Funchess joined with College of the Desert President Val Martinez Garcia and CSUSB Palm Desert Campus Dr. Edna Martinez for a panel discussion on generative AI perspectives, challenges and hopes. After lunch PSUSD teachers Jessica Pack and Donielle Papp joined COD instructors for a discussion on AI in the classroom and navigating the new technology for scholars. Board of Education Vice President/Clerk Charlie Ervin and Board Member Madonna Gerrell along with several high school scholars and District staff members joined the informative sessions while a group of PSUSD middle school scholars participated in the GenJam where they are busy working with AI to create films, music and art. Some of their creations will be shown at the closing showcase tomorrow. 💻👩‍💻👨‍💻

Kudos to the City of Palm Springs Office of Economic Development and the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce for this amazing opportunity for learning and engagement! 👏🌟
