Yesterday I was surprised with the most prestigious award I’ve ever received in my life – The Most Loyal Audience Member (MLAM) of Tunggu Sekejap : The P. Ramlee Suite, having attended a total of 10 (+1 stealth standing ticket) performances last year and this. Yes that’s right TEN. Or actually, ELEVEN. I was so gobsmacked when Julian made this announcement at his final show that every iota of good sense left my body when they brought me on stage. I was completely floored by the effort he made to thank me for one of the greatest pleasures I have ever experienced eleven times over. Why is he thanking me??? I should be the one thanking him!!! So let me post the speech I actually wanted to make while my brain suffered several mini implosions when I was presented with this achievement of a lifetime. First, thank you Mr. P Ramlee for the genius that you were and for creating music that still reaches deep into our souls. I’d like to thank my (biological) son, for allowing me to be a delinquent parent and abandoning him on many nights to fend for himself and find his own nourishment as I sat in the Wild Rice Theatre curling my toes in orchestral delight. Massive thanks too to Ivan Heng my fairy godmother for putting this gorgeous, lush, most beauteous production together and for refusing to let Julian rent the Wild Rice theatre with his own Young Artist Award (2023) money for a mere 2 days to stage this. Thank you for insisting that Wild Rice produced this show and for giving it the intimate yet magnificent staging it so rightly deserved. Thank you to Maestro Foo Say Ming and every single member of the stunning re:mix Orchestra for playing with such heart and pouring your souls into every note. It was obvious that you loved what you were playing and it was impossible not to love it too. I have studied your 30 faces across 10+1 shows and your performances have moved me to tears countless times as many of you have witnessed. Thank you for the care and mastery you displayed for your craft. I resisted getting new headshots done because my last headshots were done in 2016 by my beloved late sister-in-law Kelly Fan, whom I miss so very much. But hello 9 years have passed and hello I’m almost a decade older and I’ve worked for years to allow my natural hair colour to sit on my head. And there was no other photographer I would trust with this other than @crispiphotos. Because he has theatre blood, because he is sensitive to the subject, because he is fantastic at his craft. Thank you Crispi for a new lease of headshot life! Thanks also to Jyue Huey from @themakeuproom_sg for the flawless face (it’s all makeup mmkay) and @hairbyleong for maintaining my hyper bangs, encouraging my natural hair colour and decades of friendship. #pamoei #headshot #silver by @pam_oei

Also, this is how he looks for Selena Tan @bigdimsumdolly “SELENAAAAAA??? The AWARE Ball - theme : HopePunk 19 Sept 2026 Honoured to have hosted again (I believe my 15th year!) at one of my favourite charities. This year I also took on extra duties by writing and directing the entertainment segment which involved audience participation in the form of voting and enthusiastic sing-along! Going by the rousing reaction, I think it was a success! We love voting at AWARE 😉 So good to have rock-steady Timothy Wan host with me and also the brilliant musical talents @mrjulian.official and @johnleepc! Thank you for making such impossibly beautiful music in a comedy skit - we had such fun at rehearsals messing around with lyrics and spoofing the hell out of some NDP songs. A bonus when my fabulous friends won the Best Dressed Table prize too! Every year they come with high concept fashion statements and this year they finally won! Congrats to ring leaders @alantheseah @shamayn @dodgy_yamamoto and the entire table including my sister from another mister @petrinakow We raised about $850K for AWARE and its new home! J is for Jellyfish J is for Jealousy J is for Julian Wong I’m jealous of all the immense talent that resides in this @mrjulian.official’s body and I’m so lucky to have known him since he was 10. I’m so proud of the great human he has become. Please have a listen to this fabulous, gorgeous music he has composed for The Feelings Farm soundtrack, wonderful lyrics by @asenseoffalling It’s meant for kids to identify their feelings and navigate their way through them, but really, it’s for everyone who’s ever had feelings, any kind of feelings. I’m honoured to have played Cloud in 2021 at the height of the covid pandemic. And happy to present some songs this evening together with @nadyazaheer @hello.marco and @shafefandi 6pm and 8.30pm at the haze-free Esplanade Concourse. It’s kind of like an album launch! It’s fun(d)raising season!!! 6 Sept : One of my pet charities Arc Children’s Centre celebrated 15 meaningful years of giving care to kids with serious illnesses, helmed by the amazing, tireless and joyful Ronita Paul & Geraldine Lee. I didn’t get a photo with them cos they were running all over the ballroom as usual. But I did AI them into carrying me! In real life, they really do carry everyone around them. My real life heroines. And it’s always easy and breezy with @hossanleong and @mrjulian.official by my side. (We missed you @margaretml!). In the annual Dash for Cash segment lasting 4 minutes, the kids (including Hossan) ran and collected a record $220K and it’s still coming in! 29 Aug : Sister Linda Sim kicked down the Assisi Hospice roof with her Taekwondo prowess. She is Singapore’s first over-65 Poomsae gold medalist and at 71 years old, she jumped, punched, chopped, did a FULL SPLIT and led the way to a record $1.6M dollars for palliative care. And please check out her warmup backstage. When I grow up I want to be Sister Linda. Minus the nun part please. Carpet/Cushion Cover Dress by @fredericklee_couture 9 Sept : The @voicesofsingapore fundraiser at CHIJMES was a first for me - so much feels when the choirs raised the $ rafters with their beautiful voices and harmonies. It was a glorious, goosebumpy ride In the chapel of my alma mater, and they raised $625K before cultural matching funds! They’re doing great work especially with their outreach programmes to people with special needs as well as seniors. And there’s really something special about singing together and even more special when altos unite in ugly sound. But someone’s gotta do it. Last weekend on 24-26 July, I had the pleasure and privilege of performing alongside some fine fellow comics at Income’s EVerybody Laugh Fest at Southside Sentosa. For me, performing standup comedy is a nerve wracking experience, right up there with leaning dance choreography. Plus we didn’t know how the audience would react in this drive-in comedy festival format, with them inside their cars. How would we hear them laugh? How to do standup to a silent carpark of electric vehicles? Well we came up with a honking and flashing system - both actions usually associated with aggression on the road - but on this occasion we gave the audience licence to freely por por pi pi and wow did they honk and flash away with SO MUCH GLEE! We got lucky with the balmy weather and alongside parking aunties issuing “fines” with wild abandonment, my Ashley-executed Jimin-fied hair and a whole kampung of like-minded EV car owners, we laughed the entire weekend away.

I also found out that @kuahjenhan is a doppelgänger body double for me. Who knew? Please go to his amazing show Like This, Like Dad on 22 August in KL at the JC Performing Arts Centre - he will be recording the show on this date. This man has made me cry tears of laughter on many an occasion and I would like you to experience the same! We could all afford to laugh a bit more in this messed up world! And to all who were there, remember DON’T GO JB EAT SEAFOOD!!!
