Tennessee Warbler and some pretty leaves. Blue ink lines in a sketchbook last September. Beautiful reference photo by Andrew MacTavish @mactavish.andrew .This year, in late-mid May, while the apple blossoms in front of my apartment building were in full bloom, 4 to 6 Tennessee Warblers sang and foraged for 3 days before moving on to their breeding areas. I didn’t manage to catch a good time for a nice video. There was either bad light, too many lawnmowers, too much construction or that Fed Ex truck that idled for 10 minutes (grrrrrr). Yellow-breasted Chats Sometimes I like to unwind by filling sketchbook pages with random Crayola crayon scribbles and watercolour swooshes. It's tremendously easy and colourful! Another day, another mood, I sketch some bird lines on top with black ink. Coloured pencils to colour the birds.Beautiful reference photos by Kent Jensen and Geoff Hill (Macaulay Library).These birds can be seen throughout the United States. Quick lil’ sketch of a quick lil’ bird! I saw a few handfuls of Ruby-crowned Kinglets migrate through my neighbourhood this spring, in the last three weeks of April. Only the male has a ruby crown and he only shows it when he is particularly excited. Swipe for two short videos of some speedy kinglet moves. Tree swallows / Hirondelles bicolores - for #aprilbirdschallenge hosted by @neyptune.illustrations - and some midges (which will be hatching soon and filling the air space of downtown Burlington).Sometimes, in the early spring, before they fly to the place where they pair up and nest, Tree Swallows can be seen in large numbers flying low over the water along the shore of Lake Ontario. Last year on April 12th, I saw about sixty of them while walking along Burlington Beach.Beautiful reference photos for birds in first sketch are by Josiah Santiago and Jeff Dyck. Birds in first two drawings were initially sketched with pencils (graphite or erasable coloured pencil), the rest were sketched directly in ink with a variety of pens.Thanks to @ordinary.tani and @pengsumie for inspiring me to do more than one sketch of the same photo.#birdart #birdstudy #treeswallow #watercolor #watercolour by @paper.bird.studio

Male and female Red-bellied Woodpeckers who are going to nest in a tree cavity in my neighbourhood. There is a third RBWO vocalizing somewhere behind me. Maybe another nesting pair? The female is the bird who moves off to the left and flies away first. The male flies toward the camera (iPhone) with a snack in his beak at the end of the video. Males have bright red head tops and foreheads. Females only have bright red head tops.There is a pair of European Starlings nesting in a tree cavity nearby. There was a bit of a skirmish between the Euro Stars and an RBWO near that cavity. Maybe the Euro Stars took the cavity the RBWO pair wanted?#birdwatching #birdphotography #birdsofontario #redbelliedwoodpecker by @paper.bird.studio

Two female Red-legged Honeycreepers. I thought it would be interesting to sketch the lines with a somewhat fat, dark purple, Molotow brush tip marker. So the legs are dark purple!
