Thrilled to share that a piece from my Parade Echoes series will be part of the ‘10 Years of SET’ exhibition.

This paper banner — built from discarded and leftover materials — comes out of my ongoing research into how popular traditions travel, adapt, and get carried into new contexts (Afterlives of Popular Tradition / A.P.T.).

It’s an honour to have it hanging alongside work from over 80 current and former @setsetsetsetsetset members, all marking a decade of this incredible community.

I’m still buzzing from the Pride Hub Newham launch this past Saturday!

Thank you to everyone who made it such a warm, joyful afternoon — so many friendly, generous people, and such a beautiful start to something that’s clearly going to be special.

I’m honoured to be joining the Autumn/Winter programme as a guest facilitator, and I’m delighted to share that my workshop will be on Saturday 31st October.

We’ll be exploring the ‘Estandarte’— a banner traditionally associated with Brazilian carnival culture. It’s not just decoration, it’s identity carried on a pole.

Together we’ll build our own banners from reclaimed and found materials, turning what’s been discarded into something that carries meaning, memory and belonging.

In the ‘Parade Echoes’ series of works, I am exploring how popular traditions travel, evolve, and take on new meaning across geographies.

‘Afterlives of Popular Tradition (A.P.T.)’

This particular paper form echo banners and standards from Brazilian cultural celebrations; the act of cutting, assembling, and transforming discards becomes its own way of thinking about how tradition gets carried and reassembled elsewhere.

This is part of my process when I’m making a banner.

Even though I start with a shape in mind, I try out different layout options with the elements I want to include. The banner changes several times as I find more interesting ways for the images, patterns, and forms to work together, until it reaches its final form.
