When opportunity comes knocking, you should often be a yes person. @tacos_and_tailwinds Tom Powell gifted this article to Paper Roads. He initiated this article for @bikepackingcom , along with the photos and videos from start to finish, without expectations of payment. Small bag makers have enough work etching out a living, let alone consider paying for advertising at this scale!! (Tom was gifted a tshirt and Treatbag as a thank you). It's not my favourite past time talking to camera, being photographed and videoed either and it added to the pressure doing this during peak season but it's all part of being a yes woman. It was a great experience seeing Tom conduct it all. He showed up to our bikepacking weekend in the Hunuas with a car and we quickly had to grab @brentpaltridge , told him to get off his bike and be the driver while Tom hung out the back window with his camera while Andrew and I grinded up the hill! Framebag received by customer and fitted straight away on his Procaliber! Almost every bag I make now are in ULTRA. This one is 200X and crazy light. by @paperroadsaotearoa

There are currently two pairs of Traverse Panniers available to ship. The Teal/Orange/White pair has ULTRA 200X drybags. The Black and Grey pair is the toughest you can get in specs for the grams. Four way stretch front pockets, real nice and deep to make sure nothing pops out. by @paperroadsaotearoa

The ultimate announcement! Traverse Panniers ordering is live on paperroads.co.nz ! Good things take time, and these have been carefully considered and prototypes abused. They're named after the 42nd Traverse, one of the places they were tested on in winter, a trail that you could use these panniers but would you? 😛 We did, it was pretty insane.

Announcement number 1: Trail Panniers are BACK! Preorders are open on paperroads.co.nz, expect delivery around mid-December for made-to-order panniers. The new backing plate design and floating liner takes all the learnings from real world testing done over winter, and from customer feedback. They are ALL seam taped no matter what fabric you choose for the outside.

It was so awesome to catch up with Anne from Nikau Caves when I dragged my battered body in there today! Desperation training for Raglan 500 after working 12hrs on Wed, I could really feel the weight of it all getting to me. It didn't help when my guts rejected whatever it was I ate yesterday and I started my ride depleted, my back askew from whatever I'd done to it, saddle at the wrong angle and position and legs had forgotten how to ride big gravel hills. C'mon, the Auckland volcanic cones does nothing to resemble the West Coast, training in Auckland is like scratching an itch.

Anne and I got onto the topic of foraging, as she and Phil are prolific at working the land and hospitality. She presented me a tasting platter of rocket, borage and cabbage flowers and several types of rocket leaves. It was a delightful wild garden salad, washed down with homemade lemonade, which was the perfect detox considering what happened in my guts this morning!

If you haven't ridden to Nikau Caves and Cafe, you need to visit this gem of a place.

A round trip from Pukekohe turned out to be 138kms...can't believe I've never done this ride in one day before?! by @paperroadsaotearoa

By random chance, I bought a collection of vintage NZ Native flora and fauna fabric patches. It's very likely they came from the Girl Guides. I absolutely adore these and I hope you do too. There are multiples of most and there are about 20 styles.

So let's play a game. Orders only by Lucky Dip. I'll draw them out of a bucket without peeking. All our native species are special so I'm not allowing for favouritism 😛

Free of charge to sew them onto whatever bag I make to order. Size varies by a bit, generally 55mm x 80mm. by @paperroadsaotearoa

Framebags in ULTRA400X and EPLX400. Special detail in the first one, to give the top compartment a bit more space with the 3L bladder taking up so much space. A couple of bags for two old mates going on a leisurely Kahurangi 500 after reading my blog ☺️ And the last one made for the guy who inspired our mission to Ten Man Hut when he got lost on the Renegades Muster and got me on the edge of my seat following his dot. by @paperroadsaotearoa
