These trees look like they had a wild night out. They're called drunken forests.

As permafrost thaws, the ground becomes unstable and boggy, causing trees to tilt or even sink. And drunken forests, which grow above the permafrost, are increasingly common across the Arctic.

It’s estimated that the world could lose up to 40 per cent of its current permafrost by the end of the century. Drunken forests have become a major point of study for scientists keeping a close eye on the Far North, which, according to recent studies, is warming four times more quickly than the rest of the world.

And when drunken forests eventually die, the disruptive impact on the ecosystem extends to water quality, because dead trees falling into nearby bodies of water release carbon and mercury as they decompose.

That’s why researchers at the Scotty Creek Research Station are monitoring drunken forests, as well as other signs of climate change, including water quality, soil biogeochemistry, greenhouse gas fluxes and soil carbon storage.

The station, located just over 60 kilometres south of Fort Simpson, Northwest Territories, became an all-season research facility in 2003. Since then, it's had to move twice because of rapid permafrost thaw, which caused the land around the station to become increasingly boggy.

It's always been a dream to have my illustrations published in a book, but I never expected that my first book would be a book of MY art, and a collab with my BFF/husband @joelkimmel!

Here are a few pics from the various signings and launches we've been doing over the past few months. It's been a bit of a whirlwind!

The reception to the book has been overwhelmingly positive and Joel and I are so grateful for all the support we've received. A huge thanks to @firefly.books for giving us this platform (in book form) to showcase our artwork.

The book tour continues! We will be signing copies tomorrow (Saturday, June 6) at Mill Street Books in Almonte., from 11am-1pm.

J'ai toujours rêvé de voir mes illustrations publiées dans un livre, mais je n'aurais jamais imaginé que mon premier livre serait un recueil de MES illustrations, en collaboration avec mon meilleur ami et mari, @joelkimmel !

Voici quelques photos des différentes session de dédicaces et lancements de ces derniers mois. C'était un véritable tourbillon !

La réaction vis-à-vis le livre a été extrêmement positive et Joel et moi sommes très reconnaissants de tout le soutien reçu. Un gros merci à @firefly.books de nous avoir offert cette plateforme (sous forme de livre) pour présenter notre travail.

La tournée du livre continue ! Nous serons à la librairie Mill Street Books d'Almonte demain (samedi 6 juin), de 11 h à 13 h.
