@parallel2you | Collection 01 | Chapter 02 | Page 24/31/35/42, “meaning”, “our heat holds heaven”, “the changing” & “enter here” — handmade by me with stainless steel wire, mesh, plastic film & dead-stock vegan fur. Note: “our heat holds heaven”’s fabric, white mesh symbolizing a veil, demonstrates the requirement for physical touch in order to clearly view the poem. by @parallel2you

Scientifically, straight lines don’t exist in nature. If you narrow it down to a molecular level, it’s not straight. It is an illusion.

Parallel things travel together, close enough to define each other by proximity, but structurally can never touch. by @parallel2you

After 10 years in the making, my first self-published poetry book, Parallel To You—‘Words and Images’ is out now :)

I’ve wanted to be a writer and poet since I was a child, but grew to know it had to be in a non-conventional way. In 2016, I started an online blog where I would upload photos from my photoshoots along with my writing, poetry and prose, and stopped in 2019 to focus on creating a physical book, aiming to combine personal style and poetry within something that’s tangible and physical.

Consisting of poetry written across a span of 15 years— years of trial, error and experimentation, my book is comprised of several versions of myself— along with photos of hand-made wearable poetry pieces: clothing I designed and hand-made, sewn myself, wrote, carved and painted poems on, as well as shot with on self timer in my childhood home. Each piece mirrors the emotional landscape of the poem it carries, each page exploring identity, spirituality, transformation, love and human error through the lens of a Puerto Rican and Filipino woman.
.

Being a model, I had built a foundation for myself and my career that’s focused primarily on exteriority, ego, and the illusion of perfection. At times, it felt as if I was wearing someone else’s body, and everything had become surface level. I accept that this perfectly visualizes the truth of the self and that truth is that I, as well as many others, live life as an oxymoron.

Unless you truly take the time to get to know someone within in-person experiences and consistent communication, you’ll never truly know them. Although this is true, even the most authentic, transparent person who wishes to translate themselves through different mediums of intimacy, whether it be digital or real life, is still an illusion of the character that person has chosen for themself. The virtual self and the brief passerby self, is not, and will never be the true self, and even that can be disassembled. The idea will remain, but its execution through perception is what ultimately changes.

Thank you for being here through my journey— Link in bio to purchase from my soft launch (limited copies available) :) by @parallel2you
