We are still buzzing from Parchment's launch party last week! What a joy to celebrate the relaunch of the journal and the Spring 2026 issue in community. Thank you to our lovely, lovely, lovely, lovely, lovely readers Adam Seelig, Ronna Bloom (@ronnabloomroom), Hannah Warry-Smith (@hwarrysmith), and Laura Zacharin, for helping us usher in a new era of Parchment with great aplomb. Thank you to @societyclubhouse for letting us fill the space, so fully, with literary enthusiasts. And thank you to our guests for filling that room with warmth. The magic of that evening is still with the team and propels us forward as we work on the Fall 2026 issue. We look forward to continuing to honour and platform contemporary Canadian Jewish writing and voices with you all! by @parchmentmag

"I want it [Parchment] to feel like a Passover seder, where you're there for hours talking."

Orly Zebak, Parchment's editor-in-chief, goes tête-à-tête with host Jonathan Slater in a conversation that reveals what she hopes the journal's return will mean for the Canadian Jewish literary ecosystem, the role it’s primed to play in the wider Canadian literary conversation, and takes on the perennially debated question: What is Canadian Jewish literature?

Find out if Orly "gets it right" by listening to her interview on Tête-à-tête (@acjsaejc) wherever you get your podcasts and by ordering your very own subscription to Parchment! These opportunities can be found at the link in bio.

Parchment champions Canadian Jewish writing that is diverse in its aesthetics and national in scope. We welcome writers and readers to join us in creating a place where, replete with our blessed differences, we can gather over writing and art that nourishes and challenges. We are seeking literary work—non-fiction, fiction, reviews, translations, liturgy, interviews, poems, cartoon—that celebrates curiosity and ignites conversation.

At its founding in 1992, Parchment was the only literary journal devoted to contemporary Canadian Jewish writing, publishing the country's most engaging Jewish voices. It featured established and emerging writers and thinkers who would play important roles in the future of Canadian Jewish literature. Parchment has been dormant since 2014. Until now.

Since the first Jewish texts set on parchment, we have been able to find moments of reprieve in a faith and culture that embraces questions through language and storytelling.

We are open to year-round submissions. To be considered for our inaugural issue, launching Spring 2026, please send in completed pieces by October 1, 2025, to info@parchmentmag.ca. Find more information at the link in bio.
