“Organizing and Parenting are very similar. I think they both require patience, trust, and a shared responsibility in creating the conditions for people to thrive.” -Murad Awawdeh, on the Parenting is Political Podcast.

We’re still thinking about this amazing episode with Murad from @thenyic! Have y’all listened yet? Did you have any favorite parts? Let’s us know! by @parentingispolitical

We can raise children who understand that consent is not merely the absence of the word “no.”

We can teach boys that masculinity does not require proving themselves to other boys through domination.

We can teach children that loyalty to a friend never requires participating in—or remaining silent about—someone else’s harm.

We can teach them that when everybody else is laughing, joining in, filming, sharing, encouraging, or looking away, you can be the person who stops it.

And then we have to build institutions that reinforce those lessons.

Structures where intervention is expected.
Where reporting harm does not require extraordinary courage.
Where adults take warning signs seriously.
Where organizations cannot quietly move dangerous behavior somewhere else.
Where accountability isn’t invented after something terrible happens but designed into the institution beforehand.

Prevention cannot just mean telling potential victims how to stay safe.

It has to mean changing the conditions under which people become perpetrators, accomplices, enablers, and silent witnesses.

That is harder work.

It is also profoundly hopeful work.

Because systems are not laws of nature.

We made them.

And that means we can make different ones.

Parenting is political because every day we are helping create the people who will eventually become somebody’s roommate, partner, fraternity brother, teammate, supervisor, teacher, administrator, juror, prosecutor, parent, and friend.

The question isn’t only whether we can raise children who would never participate in collective violence.

It is whether we can raise children who, when violence becomes possible around them, have the courage, skills, and expectation to break the collective.

And whether we are willing to build institutions that help them do it. by @parentingispolitical

Hey yall! We just hit 50k followers so we wanted to make sure to reintroduced ourselves!! We are Jasmine (she/her) and Mo (they/them). We are working class parents in the nonprofit industrial hellscape, community organizers, and regular f*ckers who started a podcast because we couldn’t stomach these neoliberal parenting coaches and brands. We happen to think that raising the next generation of young people is a critical and often overlooked form of revolutionary work.

We are not “influencers”- we use this platform that we have built through organic connection to pipeline everyday folks into good work with our colleagues and comrades. We amplify folks that we know and have been connected to and vetted their work and political positions (the online grifters are reaaaaal). We are glad you found us.

Nice to meet you- please stick around

We are thrilled to offer our community a free copy of Leslie Priscilla's book, Chancla: Healing Our Families, Ourselves, and Our Culture through Nonviolent Parenting.

In Chancla, educator and Latinx Parenting founder, Leslie Priscilla, invites readers, parents, and the Latinx community on a transformative journey away from cycles of fear, shame, and corporal punishment. With warmth and deep cultural insight, Priscilla explores the historical legacies attached to Chancla while offering a path forward rooted in connection, self-reflection, and ancestral healing. Chancla is the nonviolent parenting practice that celebrates Latinx cultura, while teaching its readers—and their Mamis, Papis, Tias, and Tios—how to heal from generational violence.

Blending personal storytelling, historical context, and actionable tools, Chancla helps readers not only nurture their children, but their wounded inner child. Readers will see themselves in these pages, because ultimately Chancla encourages them to unlearn what they’ve inherited and make space for what they deserve: homes full of love, safety, and respect.

Oakland parents and caregivers, we’re kicking off a Parenting is Political book club with What White People Can Do Next: From Allyship to Coalition by Emma Dabiri, and you’re invited!

This isn’t a book club where we sip wine, say “wow, so important,” and then go home and change nothing. (Okay, there might still be wine, but you get what I’m saying.)

Emma Dabiri challenges readers to move past performative allyship and individual guilt and toward something much more useful: solidarity, coalition, and collective action.

So let’s get together. Let’s read and wrestle with the ideas. Let’s ask uncomfortable questions. And let’s figure out what this shit actually means for how we raise our kids, show up for our neighbors, and build power in our communities.
