One week left to get your nominations in for our Medieval Worlds residential, run by Corpus Christi College and the Parker Library! 📖

The residential will run from 9-10 April 2026 for Year 12 (Y13/S5) students, with free accommodation and food (and travel bursaries available for students on government-funded free school meals).

This World Earth Day, we celebrate with our magnificent Sawley Map, one of the oldest existing English maps of the world/ mappa mundi (ca 1190, now in CCCC MS 66; cf stanford.io/3xQScZb), feat familiar sites, from Bethlehem & Jerusalem (right at the centre), to the British Isles (on the freezing lower left corner, literally on the edge of the world!), plus numerous peculiarities, such as a rather jaunty Basilisk!

Happy #TolkienReadingDay*! Hope you enjoy this insight into Tolkien's own reading, as glimpsed in our Reader Register for 1950 and 1952, whose pages record that JRRT visited us eleven times over the course of two Summer stays in Cambridge, both times in mid August and always to study MS 402, a 13th-century copy of the Ancrene Wisse, a treatise on religious life for anchoresses or nuns!
