I’m flying home from the @adaptqualifications International summit and it was such an awesome experience!

ADAPT brings together the people who have actually moved the needle in our discipline, the teachers, the community builders, the leaders who shape futures and the organization was entirely created from first and second generation parkour practitioners.

To stand among them as a speaker was not a small thing for me!

I’ve spent two decades building a career in parkour, currently running operations as the COO for @freedom_in_motion, building a consulting company ( @motion.mentors ) that now supports more than a dozen movement facilities across the world. I’ve spent years developing culture systems, leadership frameworks, and operational structures that help communities grow without burning out the humans who keep them alive.

To have that work recognized by ADAPT, an organization rooted in integrity, lineage, and technical rigor, is one of the most meaningful achievements of my career! It means the world to me that I get to share what I have seen make meaningful differences in the lives of coaches and the community with people who appreciate them as deeply as I do.

Mexico gave me memories I won’t forget! So much fun training with my friends and met many more.

From a presentation that @dan_edwardes gave I am also walking away with a much stronger regard for the responsibility I have to ensure that the true experience that had us fall in love with parkour is not lost as we develop programs and classes. I will be incorporating much more aspects of discovering and creating challenges and experiences into any projects I create regarding parkour curriculum or class systems.

I am grateful to contribute, grateful to have learned, and grateful to stand in a room where the future of this discipline is being shaped by people who care enough to do the hard work when no one is watching.

Also here's some flips!

Thanks for having me! Looking forward to London next year!

2 years and 9 different programs.

There were many days where I didn’t see the point in trying anymore.

Finding your limit is a lonely and painful pursuit filled with disappointment and uncertainty, yet with massive reward for those who stick with it.

A reward that goes beyond any new “personal record” or accomplished goal. The reward of knowing you’re not only strong physically, but mentally resilient enough to overcome doubt, fear, jealousy, pain, setbacks and failure over and over and over again.

That’s what it’s always been about for me!

May my body continue to reflect my spirit!

Thank you to my team, which without none of this would be possible.

Quiet time is not a break from coaching.

It is coaching.

When you build it correctly, you are teaching kids how to regulate themselves, tolerate boredom, create without being prompted, connect socially without an activity being handed to them, and actually become more independent.

At the same time, you are giving your coaches room to recover, reducing camp fatigue, and lowering the likelihood that tired kids and tired coaches start making bad decisions.

But you cannot just write “30 minutes of quiet time” on a schedule and expect any of that to happen.

The environment matters.
The expectations matter.
The language your coaches use matters.

Kids exist inside the context we create for them.

Create it poorly, and quiet time feels like punishment.

Create it well, and it can become one of their favorite parts of camp.

That is the difference between simply running activities and actually understanding how to develop children.

If you want your coaches communicating with kids this way, creating stronger environments, and burning out less, book a call with Motion Mentors.

There are some invitations in parkour that I don’t think I’ll ever learn to treat casually, such as judging for @sportparkour or being invited to be a keynote speaker at @artofretreat

Being invited to coach American Rendezvous is exactly one of those invitations.

I’ve spent most of my life in this discipline and 15+ years coaching it. These days, a lot of my time is spent running businesses, developing teams, and helping operate four gyms in California.

But underneath all of that, I’m still a coach.

That is the foundation.

ARDV gives me a rare opportunity each year to set everything else down and return fully to that role. To think deeply about what I want to teach, why it matters, and what I can offer a room full of people who have chosen to trust me with their time and their training.

I take the lesson planning seriously. Not just what skills would be fun, but what idea is actually worth carrying home. What can challenge an experienced athlete while still giving something meaningful to someone newer? What can I distill from twenty years of training, injuries, technical obsession, mistakes, successes, and thousands of hours spent coaching people?

That trust means a great deal to me.

American Rendezvous brings together athletes, coaches, and communities from all over, each with their own history and perspective. Being invited to contribute to that is something I feel genuine reverence for.

I never want to show up simply because I’ve been there before.

I want to earn the invitation again.

To bring everything I’ve worked to become as an athlete, coach, educator, and leader, and then give as much of it away as I can.

Thank you @pkgenboston for continuing to trust me with this community.

No matter where my career takes me, I hope I always protect the part of my life where I can put together a lesson, stand in front of a group of people, and say:

Here’s something I’ve learned. Let’s work on it together.

If you’ve never been to American Rendezvous, go.

Train. Learn. Meet people. Contribute something of yourself.

It remains one of the weekends that reminds me most clearly why I fell in love with parkour in the first place.

Suffering is not the goal.

The best parkour sessions of my life are not the ones where l battle through injury or pain.

Which is why I will continue to train, and will condition when l am tired. Why I make strength and recovery a daily priority.

The goal is to suffer just enough, and intelligently enough, that I get to spend more of my life feeling strong, pain free, and completely free to move.

I put a lot of value on discomfort. I train tired, I condition when I don’t feel like it, and I spend an embarrassing amount of time doing rehab that you'd expect to find in a senior center aerobics class.

But despite what you see on my stories or in my posts, the suffering is not the goal.

It's the joy.

Those moments where there is no pain, no concern for my body, no doubt that it can handle what I'm asking it to handle.

It's all for that! by @parkourchris

Quick dub for you!

I know I’ve been posting a lot about business, but behind the scenes I’ve been training harder than I ever have.

For years I was warned not to put on too much muscle because I’d lose my twisting, speed, or feel for movement.

That body building would not make me better at Parkour in any meaningful way.

Instead, I’m stronger, heavier, and my twisting is better than it’s ever been.

Best of all I have NO pain in my body in my mid thirties still hitting these moves.

I have built a strength that belongs to my movement!

Excited to put some serious effort into a new video soon and show what that growth looks like.
