We're pausing Parlay House.

For fifteen years, this community held some of the best conversations many of us have ever had. It gave people friendships they didn't expect to find, and a place to feel less alone, especially during the years when so many of us were.

The world around community has shifted, and we're choosing to be honest about that instead of pretending otherwise.

This isn't a period. We genuinely don't know yet if it's a comma. What we do know is this: the reason Parlay House existed in the first place hasn't gone away. So we're asking something simpler of all of us. Notice the person standing alone. Make an introduction. Listen a little longer than feels necessary. Small things, passed from one woman to another, still add up to something real.

Thank you for fifteen years of showing up for each other. ๐Ÿ’› by @parlay.house

You were told you should have your life figured out by 30. Most women don't, and that's actually fine.

You're not behind on anything. You're exactly on schedule. ๐Ÿ’› by @parlay.house

Something about fall makes everything feel clearer.

Summer pulls us in a dozen directions at once. Fall asks something different of us, to slow down and actually choose what belongs on the calendar, instead of just filling it back up.

Life is short. Spend it with the people who actually make it fun. ๐Ÿ’› by @parlay.house

Every woman knows someone who suddenly wants to quit everything and open a flower shop.

We call it a midlife crisis and leave it at that. But nobody asks the more interesting question: why a flower shop? Why not a different job with more money or more status? The fantasy is never about ambition. It's about wanting something simple, physical, and entirely yours, after years of a life that asked you to be everything to everyone else.

Motherhood especially has a way of surfacing old rules we never chose for ourselves. Those rules get harder to live by the longer we carry them, until eventually something has to give.

Maybe that's not a breakdown. Maybe it's just the first honest question you've asked yourself in years: who am I when I'm not performing for anyone?

That question deserves company, not a self-help book. ๐Ÿ’› by @parlay.house

Making friends as an adult isn't something that just happens anymore. It takes putting yourself somewhere new, on purpose, around people who are looking for the same thing.

That's what Parlay House is for. ๐Ÿ’› by @parlay.house

Somewhere along the way, women get taught that being liked matters more than being honest, more than being direct, more than taking up space.

Be agreeable. Be easy. Be pleasant, always.

Meanwhile the same traits that make a man look confident, ambition, directness, clear boundaries, get read as difficult the moment a woman does them.

Midlife has a way of putting an end to that. ๐Ÿ’›

Every September checklist looks the same. Get the kids into a routine, dig out the planner, restart the gym schedule, finally answer the emails you ignored all summer.

Somehow the one thing that actually matters never makes the list: a few people to make real plans with.

Everything else, you've figured out on your own. We can help with that last one.๐Ÿ’› by @parlay.house

Your 50s might be the most exciting decade of your life.

By now, you've spent decades figuring out who everyone else needed you to be.

This decade is different. The kids need you less. The career has less to prove. What's left is a wide open space to actually ask who you want to become next, and the freedom to go find out.

Reinvention isn't a crisis at this age. It's finally having the room for it. โœจ

September is packed with events, and every single one is built around the same idea: real conversation over anything performative.

In Brooklyn, we're touring a traditional Korean rice wine brewery and sitting down for a guided tasting of three sool.

In the East Bay, Napa Valley winemaker Elan Fayard walks us through a wine tasting while sharing what it actually takes to build a career and a family in the wine industry.

In San Francisco, memoir coach and publisher Brooke Warner joins our founder Anne to talk about the craft of turning your own life into a story worth telling.

In DC and Miami, our Annual Book Exchange is back, bring a book that says something true about who you are, and go home with someone else's story.

And in NYC, gynecologic oncologist Dr. Elizabeth Poynor answers the health questions most women wait too long to ask, covering hormones, bone health, heart health, and what to prioritize starting now.
