I like to collect plants that people have given up on. The artist in me does it to explore the idea of resilience, while the hoarder in me does it because they’re usually free. The intention behind making this piece was to capture the power of nurturing something that has been overlooked. An effort that requires patience and takes time. Sculpting this work took me over a year and it is paired with a cutting from a plant that I saved. Exhibiting this piece in an art gallery is especially meaningful to me because something that would have otherwise been discarded now has the opportunity to be seen in a new light. by @pascal_rene

This piece is inspired by Auguste Ottin’s sculpture, Polyphemus Surprising Acis and Galatea, from the Medici Fountain in Paris. I was moved by how the giant is looming right over them, but the lovers only see each other. That contrast is what drove me to create this painting. It’s a reminder of how easily we can get distracted from caring for the people closest to us. With so much chaos and uncertainty in the world right now, the work forces you to realize that the faces of the people we love are the things we look for in the end. by @pascal_rene
